Red Hat Discontinuing KDE in RHEL and CentOS

Red Hat killing off KDE
In the RHEL 7.6 changelog the following appears Red Hat said that KDE Plasma Workspaces (KDE), which has been provided as an alternative to the default GNOME desktop environment has been deprecated.
'Deprecated' as used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a warning that certain functionality may be removed or replaced in the future.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux will no longer support using KDE instead of the default GNOME desktop environment.
-
In light of recent events (looking at you IBM), was this impacted because of the recent acquisition or something already on the table already?
Would this eventually have some impact on Fedora in the future?
Are there plans on replacing KDE with something of their own development?
Are there plans on deprecating any other desktops?
-
KDE was so forgotten on RHEL & CentOS, I really have to wonder how much this really matters. First, RHEL isn't all that major of a player in the desktop Linux space. So that's big on its own. Second, people using RHEL have almost always been all about Gnome, so KDE on RHEL seems like a small niche in a small market.
Suse is still using KDE as its primary. Ubuntu still offers Kubuntu as a really major alternative spin. Fedora is still offering its KDE spin. Manjaro is a major player in the Arch space and is all KDE. I think KDE will barely notice this change.

There's nothing to replace. Gnome was always the primary. KDE was just a secondary option that no one ever talked about.

Since they only have one, deprecating it would require deprecating the entire concept of a Red Hat desktop option.

Fedora has like 20 desktop options. RHEL had two. Removing one from RHEL, which is influenced by Fedora rather than the other way around, would have no reason or expectation to influence in the other direction.

Yeah, this definitely has nothing to do with IBM.
Their resources are used on GNOME. -

Their resources are used on GNOME.It makes total sense to me. I've always been a KDE fan, but supporting a barely used (and barely realized it was still there) desktop on their product just wastes money and effort that could be better spent elsewhere. This really seems more like they are just "focusing" better.

Is the default layout GNOME or GNOME Classic?

Plus they are working on improving Wayland which is another reason to support only GNOME.

Yeah, the new GNOME desktop interfaces remind me of interface to Vista way to much. Stop with trying to make the same interface work on a tablet and desktop already.

I don't recall GNOME devs trying to sell that us. But Canonical definitely tried selling that nonsense to us.

Yeah, that's Unity, not Gnome. Gnome 3 is only for the desktop, has nothing to do with tablets or alternative devices.

Am I thinking of Unity doing that horrible left-side bar with favorites and 3-4 clicks to get too anything useful (to me)?

GNOME
Unity

@black3dynamite Aha! They both did it! Yes, I have a thing about an entire desktop worth of space getting forced down into one little bar, and the menu being at least 2 clicks deeper than it was.

That's a common setup of many desktop environments.

Why is the menu deeper? I don't prefer this setup either, but it's no deeper. It's still a button on the desktop for me.

Because as the admin/geek, everything I want/need to use is a submenu of the all programs menu. Granted I mostly just favorite a terminal emulator and be done with it, but it is much farther to move around and menus for me to get through. Give me Cinnamon with a hotkey set for the menu any day.
