The Bad Windows Update Career Dance

So I wonder, how many people are suddenly out of work because their management blames them for Windows updates. And then replaces them with other people who are recently out of work caused by Windows updates. It's the "arbitrarily blaming the IT guy" dance that companies do. Something big happens, they just randomly get rid of the guy they have and pick someone up who is out of work for the same or similar reason.

Are you also including BYOD users that still blame IT?

@scottalanmiller Are companies reluctant after getting rid of somebody? Like they wish they didnt do it? Or is it quick Alzheimer's of past employees and the new fresh blood has been there the whole time?

I would guess both. But I think Alzheimer's is the more common reaction, at least at first. I think IT is so often ignored that they are easily able to just forget the whole situation entirely.

I'm guessing none. Though the US are a bit more aggressive at hiring and firing than us Europeans.

This is common in the SMB space. Also firing for rediculous expectations is a general problem in this space. Expectation management is also bad by the it guys.

I haven’t used windows as my primary work desktop in so long. OS X as long as you don’t yolo major releases is fine. MDM makes it easy enough to manage at scale.

For highly consistent windows desktop experiences non-persistent VDI is pretty flawless. “New desktop smell” from a common gold Master that you can phase out new updates or Instantly roll them back is handy.

So much of EUC is going to web apps from a SSO brokers I’m not sure beyond office, franz Camtasia and audio Hijack o have that can break from an update.

I'm guessing none. Though the US are a bit more aggressive at hiring and firing than us Europeans.
Someone posted on another forum about how they almost lost their job from this. It's super common in the US at least for any situation where IT has issues that people will be fired because of things that the vendor did. Because employers hold IT accountable for things outside of their control or visibility.

Same thing would apply if a person did a bad Linux update and broke a farm of servers. Also I see multiple issues with companies not wanting to update their systems and keeping old systems running which is a far worse thing.
