What Are You Doing Right Now

Have I stated anything untrue or inaccurate? Also, I don't bash the company, I bash inefficient or moronic processes.
That is bashing the company. That's exactly what it is. I know that you aren't internalizing what you are doing and how it relates to your job but you must see that everyone but you sees this clearly. It is black and white. This isn't a grey area where it "might be acceptable." Talking about your current or past employers or their customers in a negative light, or possibly at all, is bad, very bad. No matter how you interpret it, the result is the same. There is no interpretation needed on your part. There is no grey space in which to play here.

AKA no tact. example, i'm looking to hire someone, and if you were in the running and I came across all of your nay saying online (you're generally a negative person on here) I would automatically throw you in the naw pile. Hubtech Out

Here is the real thing, I think. And I don't mean this to be negative, it's a choice. We all react to AJ's posting about what happens at his job as if it is bad. This isn't correct. It isn't unethical, mean or inaccurate. What it is is bad for AJ's career. That is all. AJ is putting himself and is future employability at risk. He is not hurting the innocent. He is not making things up (as far as I can verify.) It's all honest frustration and transparency.
What we are all missing is priorities. To all of us AJ's self preservation and career safety are the top priority. That's fine and we feel that way because we are looking out for him. Nothing wrong with that. But to AJ, that's not his top priority. Venting his frustrations, trying to change how things are done, being transparent about problems at work - these are all higher priorities to him than his career prospects. There is nothing wrong with that decision. That's totally AJ's decisions to make. It's not one that we would expect, but it isn't wrong.

That's all well and fine - but he's still (at least here on ML) posting those issues in such a way to be helpful. Instead they come off more as bitching about something he doesn't like.

You can take it that way. That's your right. But do you really think I open myself up to the type of criticism I can, and have, taken just for the sake of bitching about something?

I am a huge fan of transparency. I'm not a particularly secretive person. Part of it is that I'm an extrovert, and I like sharing and interacting with people. Another part is that if I have something I feel is important to say, and I don't say it, it seriously eats me alive. I'll take the flak and lashing out I get over that feeling of holding something in any day.

Not for nothing, that's called maturity. I think the prevailing sentiment here is that you are shooting your future self in the foot. Yes, you're frustrated. Yes, you want to vent. Get on the phone and call a friend. Go find someone smaller than you and slap them, if it helps. Don't jeopardize your future for the sake of getting something off your chest today. In the long run, you're bound to regret it. If you need a place to vent, I get it. Plastering it all over the internet (when you are a technology worker, esp.) is not the proper place. That's why everyone is shaking their heads.

AJ as you know most of us at least the NTG crowd especially, feel like we are almost responsible for you. Are we? No. But we do just want to help you out. We want you to succeed and in turn it comes off as criticism we really are just trying to help. And maybe we should stop but we all have a hard time with that one. We really do what to help you do what's best for you and grow.

LOL, everyone has the same problem that AJ does but in a different way. To AJ, he has to get things off of his chest about frustrations at work. To a lot of us, we have to tell AJ that he is hurting his long term career prospects. It's a similar reaction, really.

Yeah, I know. I appreciate it, and your words are NOT lost on me. I'll make a focused effort to curtail my posting style from now on.

That's one way to look at it.

Just finished watching Event Horizon.
-
And I checked out the Steam weekend sale and saw that the Saints Row Franchise was on sale. So I picked up everything that I was missing. I already had all of Saints Row III. Now I have Saints Row II and Saints Row IV.

Good morning everyone

This was only my second time watching. It's been since the Laserdisc days since I last saw it. Good movie, not great, but good.
