Drinking my second cup of coffee from the new glass French Press. Amazingly great taste compared to the Keurig. I was definitely missing out!
Keurig is the worst, IMHO. Even traditional carafe drip from cheapo units is better than Keurig. Worst coffee at the highest price, it's like Starbucks at home!
I've had bad coffee, and I don't agree that it was bad from the Keurig. It still tasted good, but not great. Drip coffee is good too, but I wouldn't call it great. From the French Press, now I would definitely call that amazingly great coffee.
Actually, I've had great drip coffee too.
The nagative to French Press is that you can't leave the coffee sitting because it just gets incredibly bitter. Besides that it's great.
The one I bought, no the grounds and everything stays in the press, so I woudln't want to keep that warm. But you can pour it out into something else to keep it warm, in the same way you can keep a drip-pot warm.

With my Chemex I just leave it and it's fine, but you don't like filters. It's just personal preference
-
@tim_g Also Chemex lists the temp of the water to be 180-200°F (I try to hit the middle) to not chemically alter the taste of the coffee. Proper blooming is incredibly important.
-
I don't put it in right after boiling. I let it sit until it feels about 90-ish Celsius.
-
@tim_g I pour the water in a little at a time and it blooms perfectly, but again I'm using a filter
-
I wonder if someone has done crazy stuff with sous vide and coffee

Ok, there is my weekend project...
-
@rojoloco Let me know if you come up with anything interesting. There's definitely some kind of coffee flavored, caffeine infused hot sauce that can be done I bet

I like how it all sits in there with the coffee grounds... you can actually see the chemical reaction happening when the bubbles form. It's pretty cool, and the smell is awesome.

I'm not against having it many different ways. I haven't had french press in awhile. Maybe I'll get one just to change it up a bit

Getting the bag to seal properly while full of water will be tricky, but I might try a glass jar with the water circulating 'round the outside.

My friend has a vaccuum sealer that allows for the sealing of any liquids. It's pretty sweet. Also like $800. Water boils at very low temperatures due to the surrounding vaccuum. Completely cool to the touch.
-
@wirestyle22 mine will seal things with some liquid, not sure about all liquid.
-
@rojoloco He sealed an entire bag of water just to show me. It was really cool.

This is the one we got:
https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Heat-Resistant-Borosilicate-Glass-2-Package/dp/B00DUHACEEGot it the same day we ordered it lol, so we had it for the next morning (today).
Ordered coffee grounds too. Peet's Coffee. It had good reviews, and it tastes good.
But now I have more time to research the best coffee to use (decently priced).
-
@tim_g Try Rook Coffee when you get a chance. I'll try Peet's although I think I've had it before.
-
@tim_g Peet's is one of my go-to reasonably priced brands. Always a solid choice.

I'll try Rook coffee next. No complaints about Peet's. It was definitely a good cup of coffee.
-
I like Black Rifle Coffee Company's Just Black. It is a really smooth cup of coffee.
