Lenovo fined over Superfish adware-ridden laptops

Computer-maker Lenovo has agreed to pay US states $3.5m (£2.7m) to settle allegations that it sold laptops with pre-loaded adware that compromised buyers' security without warning.
The company has also agreed to seek consumers' consent before installing any such software in the future.I am glad that something was done and not just "I wave my finger at you. Stop being naughty." but I would have liked to have seen the figure at $35m USD. Then it might actually hurt their earnings projections, possibly teaching them a lesson/making more of an example of them.
I also reckon they know that users will knowingly install malware just to get rid of the popups.

I wonder how many posts we will see elsewhere about how there was no Superfish and Lenovo fixed all that, or it was only consumer machines or other made up stuff.

Have you seen people's reactions to this since the 2015 announcement? They've got lot's of traction in the marketplace.

In addition, the company has agreed to implement a software security compliance programme that it must allow an independent third-party to check at regular intervals for the next 20 years
I wonder if it will do any good?

It's not just over on SW tho. Of course, I have to wonder what % of SW add sales are Lenovo. Probably a reason so many of my anti Lenovo posts have disappeared without any notification.
