The degree of trying to hurt other people to make themselves look good here is just so high.
https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2088225-nas-advice-and-raid-level-for-backup
SOme stuff was deleted, as I expected. I'm not taking issue there. But that anyone thinks so little of themselves or their profession or the community to actually defend Robert is unthinkable. What pieces of crap people are. That guy is a jerk and honestly is just there to hurt people who don't know any better. I honestly think that he thinks that it is funny.
-
@scottalanmiller That's one reason why I only post what I post. I'd rather say nothing than say something that's likely wrong and cause harm. Unless I'm making an obvious joke, I can't fathom willingly giving bad information.

Now the entire thread is just disjointed since David took out comments that were later quoted.

Was hoping for a free Linux bare-metal restore backup solution through Relax-and-Recover. That didn't work out, and there are no others I can find like it.
So... FWBackups / RSync is the winner on this special-case Fedora 26 physical server.

physical server.
So sorry for you. Special-case I know, but still.

Accidentally causing harm is unlikely. Robert is intentionally lying about a test he faked to mislead people and discredit actual math. It's a very different thing. And something he has a track record of doing.

Was that setup with LVM? You know something as simple as a usb stick can be added to the volume group in order to grab a snapshot of the system, right?
-
Has anyone seen my USB drives? Lol

Spiceworks has created a culture of "math is opinion". They inject "opinion" and "preference" as if they override anything and everything. The truth, or math, or facts are just "opinions" and they think that you can say anything, anytime because everything to that community is accepted if you treat it as opinion.
That's why everything has been changed drastically as everything is relative to something. There is gotta be a point where facts take precedence.

Yeah. In theory. Not sure many people care.
To be fare , there were a lot of good posts on that thread too. But so many bad ones.

Do you have any proof? That's quite the accusation

Yes, proof was in the thread. He fabricated a study and called us all liars (because the math we use is a myth.) I find it odd that he called most of the community liars, and then fabricated a story to substantiate it, and I'm questioned for calling him out but no one, except me, questioned him for calling us all liars in the first place.
-
The study he has discussed previously and it is separately known to be a fabrication. He really studied "something", but not the thing that he is claiming that he studied. He then regularly uses it to claim something completely false and call everything that people (and vendors, and publications, etc.) say as false.
-
Welp... this is my life now... probably should call and see wtf is wrong with the DSL line.
-
So it isn't an accusation really at all, it's just pointing out the obvious statements in the thread. Why he uses that false study to try to put innocent people asking questions at risk, I have no idea. But it is his MO. He like hunts down unsuspecting people to try to trick with that stuff.
-
I know that some stuff in the thread was deleted, I don't know if his original post meant to mislead the OP was removed or not. I've since muted him because it's hard not to keep feeding the trolls if you keep seeing what they post. He's not someone that there is any reason for me to be reading, so I muted him. Everything he posts is so mean and underhanded, he won't change. He's been confronted with it publicly and privately many times, it's just who he is. Nothing more to be done.

I read in the thread about his study - it might be useful for clarity to post something that substantiates your side of this. Right now it's not looking good for either of you. Just an observation as someone who knows nothing of what's going on outside of what I read in that thread (as with 95% of the people who will read it).

I had posted about the study. It was deleted by David, I think.
