A lot of times they don't publicize it or even tell you the truth when asked. But it looks like it's there.

Cool thanks - in the end I still cool with my current setup. I wait for my email until I check it manually (at least for personal email)

Well, you can set it to IMAP and turn off push. IMAP works better and eliminates the single point of failure you get when using a client. FWIW

Who knows I might be using IMAP and not even realize it since most phones today will auto configure based on your email address ( I did notice that cox started doing that about 2 years ago).

The single point of failure has never been an issue for me since (on my phone) I only set to copy messages and delete from server when i delete from my phone (which is how I wanted it).

I guess I've been kinda getting the setup the OP wanted since I started using email on my phone to begin with.

@Dashrender That approach. Pushed, but no alerts. Check it when convenient or needed. Could set alerts for VIPs (SO, family, etc), haven't been compelled to that just yet.

That's what I do. Push but no alert.

I do not even mess with personal email on my cell phone, nor do I really require it for email at all, but for when I do, it is pushed.

Though honestly you probably could chain me to my desk for a full day and I wouldn't even notice, so email on phone is generally a moot point.

I have been annoying people for a while with a copy of the old AOL "You've got mail" WAV file set as the notification on my iPhone. I generally have it on vibrate or on my headset, but i like to specifically turn it on in some situations

I have email on every device that I touch. I don't even want to use the loo without having email access. 😉

AJ you know you are jealous of his WAV file.

A buddy of mine has his Android set to yell "warning, warning, it's the wife" when his wife calls.

I have push notifications setup on my IPhone but on my tablets (yes plural) I have email there but no notifications setup for them. My phone is always at least within arm's reach if not in a pocket and my tablets are on my desk and being used. When I had them all pushing email and notifications setup on everything with my desktop and laptops each dinging when I got email it was a bit annoying and took a good 5 seconds for the noise to stop 😛

That's a good idea @minion-queen my tablets all beep and bop unnecessarily. I'm going to adjust that.

Was it like conducting a symphony all day? With the volume of email you get you practically could...

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned not pushing e-mail to conserve battery life.

@ajstringham it was even driving me a bit nuts.

@networknerd The battery life on my devices is so good that pushing email hasn't been an issue at all.

So am I the only radical out there who doesn't push his e-mail? Do you find that pushing e-mail to your phone makes you a slave to it in a way?

I have my phone set up to only push during the work days. On weekends, I don't wish to be a slave to email, so it's set for manual.
