@dustinb3403 You don't want a USG. Period. Ever.

      It is a gimped ERL.

For personal home use, buy the ERX.

@dustinb3403 To directly answer the last demo question, no. But if you have a UNiFi Controller, all you have to do it poke around the screens there a bit.

The controller lacks a lot of functionality without the ERX or security Gateway.

On a side note, the controller insists on needing a USG to enable certain functionality, does the ERX fill that requirement?

Sadly it is gimped, and many features that aren't gimped have to be managed through a config file that's stored on the controller but edited like editing any text file.

I have a USG, and it sits on the shelf, never to be used again. Do what Jared says and Go with ERX

Yeah, I also have a pair out in the wild.. anything more complex than simple gateway to the internet, just don't. It was a cool idea to have everything in the Unifi Controller, to bad they haven't focused on getting the functions in there.

You don't define you router needs by the management software.

The UniFi Controller is for UniFi equipment. If you don't by UniFi, then it does not use the controller.

The USG was made for stupid people that have no idea that a Router and an Access Point are two different things.

I bought one and it is in the field. I will not buy another though.

Gotcha. USG is a magical black box. The ERL and ERX are the business equivalents without the magic.

ERL = USG literally, same hardware and firmware. If you SSH into the USG, and show configuration it will be the same thing.

I believe they simply added a few extra lines to make it require the UniFi Controller.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this - but I seriously doubt this. It's just clear that Ubiquiti hasn't spent the time improving the interface (adding missing features) to the controller software.

No it was made for stupid people. Go look at all the historical posts of idiots begging for a "UniFi" router.

Yeah I have a controller running at my house now. But was wanting to replace my router, and was under the assumption I required the USG to tie it into the controller as a replacement to what I have now.

If the ERX is what is needed, then that is what I'll get.

Well, to tie it into the router, yes you'd need a USG. But you'll be very limited. Now, if you're doing next to nothing at home like I am, you could probably very easily get away with a USG, but that would still be crazy because for less than half the price you can get a ER-X, or like $20 less you can get an ER-L.

Then you can setup the sorta newly released USMN (whatever the real name is) reporting tool that JB just made a guide for.

So ERX to replace my existing router, and tie that into the controller I have running as a VM.

And then setup a UNMS (for what purpose?)
