Three drive configs on the xd:

      1. 24 2.5" front & 2x 2.5" rear
      2. 12 3.5" front, 4 2.5" internal and 2 2.5" rear
      3. 18 1.8" front, 8 3.5" front and 2 2.5" rear

Dang that's a lot more than the older Power Edges used to take.

Do these servers have real RAID 10?

Looks like it's because the are orientating the hard drives vertical to get more in the chassis.

I think with the GPU stuff they might be trying to target some of the VDI market.

              I still like HP.

Meh. Dells warranty support is some of the best out there IMO.

They were verticals in the 24 drive R720xd too.

R730xd has front and rear drive bays. First server with 1.8" drive bays.

Jeez - 1.8" guess I need to do some reading.. I hadn't seen those yet.

1.8" are used for SSDs. The mSATA format. The Drobo 5D uses one.

Looks like a pretty good upgrade. That change in caching worries me a bit, though.

LSI controllers are always RAID 100. Just set the span size to two for RAID 10.

@scottalanmiller Thanks! I just read your RAID 100 article the other day.
