NextCloud mail client

@Drew was asking me if anyone I know uses the NextCloud built in email client?
He has a client that currently has their email split over Yahoo Business mail (yeah - crazy, wow) and and internal Exchange server.
He wants a personally controlled storage solution like NextCloud, but wants it integrated into email. I proposed that he move to a hosted email solution and use the NextCloud web based email client.
I've never used it, so I have no idea what it looks like, etc.
On a side note, personally I'd be concerned about the lack of syncing contacts and calendars with the webmail client in NC, but maybe someone has a solution for that.
-
Like a standard web mail app from what I see. Happened to have just tried it out on my test server this morning. Standard IMAP/SMTP setup. Haven't looked at automating it yet.

Yup, those pieces are there too.
-
The mail app on NC is an IMAP client. Just like a web based Thunderbird kind of thing.

Yup, those pieces are there too.
What method does it use to sync them?

It doesn't. You and Scott are talking about different things because your original question was not specific enough.
Nextcloud has Contact and Calendar apps. Those, of course are sync'd within the platform and able to be put on your devices.
But you are talking about syncing contacts and calendars form another device via Nextcloud. That is completely different.

Thanks for the clarification. You are right JB - I'm talking about the ability to sync contacts and calendars between NC and whatever your main email host is and your device seamlessly.
Does this exist? -
But to generally answer the question, the Nextcloud mail app is IMAP, so whatever source that account comes from, if it has contacts and calendars integrated with the IMAP connection, then they could come in also.

I was pretty sure IMAP only support email, not contacts and calendar. If that's not the case, do you know - does RS not support calendar/contact syncing via IMAP?

IMAP is just mailboxes, but your calendar server should have its calendar shared too.

Again, using what mechanism? Specifically looking for a way to sync your calendar from RS to your phone (and contacts). The only way I'm currently aware of is ActiveSync, which costs more money.

I don't want those things to sync from anywhere but the source (main hoster of email), but can the NC webclient tap into O365's calendar and display it?

It was an example. say you hate Sharepoint, but love Word, whatever excuse you need to answer the actual question.

Like CalDav or iCal of course. The calendar sync protocols. Or AS, of course, too. AS is available for free on many platforms, including Zimbra.

Don't know about O365, but it will tap into standard compliant ones for sure, that use the open protocols. I would be shocked if Exchange didn't support one of the standards, I've just not looked before.
