Goodbye 3DTV

So long, 3DTV - we won't miss you
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-38778244Good article on what we already knew, the whole thing was way too much of a gimmick.
-
I say good riddance... I hated 3D. I always ended up watching a movie with 1 eye closed when in 3D.
-
I've not used one in decades, but it was always so cheesy when we had it before.

Pre Lasik, 3D movies generally rarely gave me the full 3D effect. Post lasik, they still aren't impressive.
I agree with Scott that they've just been a gimmick for the most part. Even worse when they take a 2D shot movie and try to make it 3D.
-
Could be worse, a movie meant to be in 3D. Those are always terrible in 2D or 3D.

The only good use of a 3DTV is split screen gaming. Not, that I've ever done it, but it looks cool.

I have a Sony 3D tv, do I use 3D part.....Nope.

Do any games support that?

Anything to save $100 or more on the TV for me... 3D was never even a consideration.
For about a min I was concerned they would stop making 2D TVs... glad that was unwarranted.
-
@Dashrender I got the TV on discount and I wasn't even bothered about 3D Either. I feel curved TV's are gimmicky as well, but that's my opinion, I know a lot of people have them.

Looks like only 6 games do. On the PS3. Maybe this was an abandoned feature.

It was from 2012 and I've never heard of it and now 3DTVs are going away, so I'd guess probably. That was half a decade ago. I'd love it, we play split screen games here all of the time - but with four players so it wouldn't work very well. And it requires loads more rendering from the hardware.
-
That was a pretty sad game lineup.
-
Probably cheaper just to buy more televisions at that point. Since this stuff requires headsets, likely the full 3D immersive headsets like Vive and Oculus are killing off this idea as they are far more advanced in the same genre. And not many people buying 3D TVs want to be stuck playing in 2D. The Vive would give each player their own 3D rather than just two 2D.
-
I've got a 70" TV with 3D capabilities, but I've never used them.
I bought the TV off of craigslist for a few hundred. And it's worked great as far as standard TV's go.

My nephews have done it with their PS3 and an LG TV with the silly glasses

No idea. I think it was a racing game. I don't remember. They're too young for FB, so I can't ask them

I'm completely there with you on the curved TV. I stuck to traditional 2D flat TV.

I hate 3D movies. Would never do 3D at home. I always have a headache after a 3D movie. I only go when it is the only movie time that works for me, and often then I won't go unless it is a movie I just absolutely want to see. One of my many issues about 3D are the glasses. I already wear glasses so I can make out the TV with out it being one huge mass of blob images, blob images in 3D still not that appealing so I have to wear two sets of glasses. Add 3D glasses with regular glasses and the excess weight starts to hurt after awhile and I am convinced this is one of the causes of my headaches. I don't know why theaters don't offer clip on 3D movie glasses for the people with glasses. Still it is just a gimmick. The only movie that I thought 3D actually added something to it was Marvel's Dr. Strange, and it wasn't a must have thing for the movie.
