Ring is Wifi, and alerts you on your phone with an app on motion and also does cloud recording for $9/year. Not marketing just a different type device.

      Ring is also outdoor

I think they raised it to $30. But still a heck of a lot less than the Nest Cam.

                Security and power.

I have a PoE switch just for my main AP and the cameras. This will all be on a UPS so that even if the power is out, they will function. Since point for the power to come from, and only one cable I need to run.

The only device that I'm currently aware of that even looks remotely secure is the Ring video doorbell. They do updates as needed (and security researchers have been pounding on them, found flaws, and Ring fixed them instantly).

Zigbee and other protocols are horribly insecure, there are several papers out there telling you exactly how to by pass security on them.

                      Little follow up on this.

I have been playing with the Ring Stick-Up cam, both indoors and out. And it has not really performed to my expectations.

I'm not sure if I got a bum device or what.

Currently trying to improve my Wifi and see if it helps.

I mean, I am getting 20Mbps to the Internet from the same location as the camera, but their "interference" number is around 60, and it's supposed to be at 55 or less to not get blocky video.

                      Example 1:

                      Example 2:
(this is of an "intruder" (ME!) stealing beer from my fridge)
you'll see it's got a wierd pink hue, as well
                      https://ring.com/share/1297845399

Neither is anywhere near the quality they show on the commercials.

I'm working with them but their support is kind of hit-or-miss. Been waiting 2 days for a response.
