Vacations and everything done (I need a longer one than just part of last week btw), I finally connected with @BradfromxByte and @ryan-from-xbyte and the server is on the way along with an additional 3 drives for a very respectable price.
Looking forward to setting this up as a test environment for our company. Our only other server has pretty much no space available for testing things alongside the production VMs.Very friendly guys and I look forward to doing more business with XByte in the future.

Awesome. What model is it that you are getting?

Bought 3 more 2TB drives for it.. I mean what can you do with 3 drives and a raid card? Setup a RAID5?

RAID 1 and a backup.

Might be worth just adding an extra drive. For a lab you could get away even with RAID 0 depending on how you intend to use it. If you want data protection, add a drive and go RAID 10. If not, RAID 0 is actually fine because if it blows up and you lose everything you get to do the project of rebuilding it all again.
Or restoring from backup, if you go that route.

I bought 3 as stated, and plan to use a single RAID10 datastore. I am still debating on Hyper-V or VMware. I have a lot more experience with the latter. Initially, I will migrate my production VMs to this and those are currently on a VMWare 5.1 host. I want to move everything to provide the opportunity to update some hardware on the production server.
So really the decision is if I want to convert my production server to Hyper-V or not. As we maintain a MAPS (or whatever it is called now) subscription, we have access to any of the MS Server technologies we want for internal use.

Still called MAPS.

For some reason, I had it stuck in my head that the name had been changed.

It has different versions now. Maybe that is it.
-
@scottalanmiller probably.

We need to get another one of these scheduled. Maybe one in Europe this time?

That may be difficult for some members over in that general area post Brexit...

They are pretty dedicated to never enacting that, so we have a lot of time.

One of the major components of Brexit was the banishment of fruit-based meetups, so y'all might be S.O.L....
