Overlooking the fact that Thumbtack is basically a ripoff of Angie's List... you're getting charged even when you lose bids.

As a brokerage, Thumbtack should only be charging businesses for bids won. You could lose 25 bids and you'd be out about $75. Whereas Thumbtack could just charge a flat low rate for bids won and still make a killing.

Poor pricing in my opinion. Account deactivated

Thumbtack is totally different than angie's list. Angie's list is more about finding reviews. Thumbtack is about finding clients. It's actually very popular in the video production world and is very useful especially since Poptent went under

I've seen they're pretty bad from random posts on Reddit. I lump them into the same group as elance.

You're basically paying $3 every time you quote someone, to which you may never see a return.

If a client is sitting on 10 quotes, Thumbtack makes $30 on that quote.

Thumbtack can be an expense for sure. I have mixed feelings with them. They have brought me some really good clients and some that I don't want. I have brought in more than I have spent, there's no question about it.

I don't think many of the customers realize that the pro pays to communicate with them. I do find people are looking "shopping" and they are a waste of time. But there are others that are serious and have spent money with the pros.

There are times where I don't have to pay at all to communicate with a customer due to a lack of pros in their area.
