I was just talking with a friend about how Waze has gone downhill. We don't even run it anymore.
Do you guys still find it useful? I find that it is misleading.
No, I don't use it or any Google Map product. Google has sent me onto dangerous, impassible roads calling them highways too many times. Places where no car could pass through, just muddy spots in a field, and once sent me walking to a bridge that didn't even exist in a Central American shanty town. The directions are SO bad that I can't feel safe using them. I get upset if my wife turns them on and pretends that they are Apple Map directions because we invariably get lost if using Google.
Wave is even worse than the normal Google stuff because the interface is such garbage.
I've had the opposite experience, probably because I only use it in the US, Apple Maps is consistently wrong to the point where my wife has to have an external GPS unit to get to her farms. Google Maps is consistently correct. There has been a few instances where the road was a few hundred feet down the road but nothing crazy like the road not being there.

To be fair, @scottalanmiller has tried to use Google Maps in places of the world most of us have probably have never heard of. Where google hired a local person to proof the road maps.
Yet the road was a mud path for donkeys....

Yep, which is why I qualified my response.

No, IIRC, he has posted that this experience was in the US. This is not a new bias. He has been complaining about this from prior to his year out of the country.

His voice isn't an option for me when I try to choose a different voice. I would immediately switch to this if I can get it to work. Anyone else try it?

I have had a few of the bad experiences that Scott talks about with Google Maps. I don't have an Apple anything, so I have no idea if it's better.
The little I used MS maps program it was only OK, but then again I didn't use it enough to have a real worthy opinion.
I still use Google Maps, but mainly because I Don't want to download and pay for a third party one.

@scottalanmiller's consistent, one sided, this product is always shit, bias aside, I have used Google Maps and/or Waze consistently for years with no issues.
I use both with constant problems. Google Maps hasn't been so awful in the US, but Waze has consistently been terrible. Apple Maps is far from perfect, but has been far better and reliable. Google Maps has been super bad outside the US, but not awesome within it.

I have had a few of the bad experiences that Scott talks about with Google Maps. I don't have an Apple anything, so I have no idea if it's better.
What I've found is that...
Google errs on the side of having roads, bridges and things that don't exist. Apple errs on the side of lacking really obvious roads that clearly have long existed.

Waze, at least used to be, is more like Apple in your statement.

I never find out, it's so hard to use that I give up. It might give great directions, but I can't stand the interface to the point of avoiding it. I assumed, probably incorrectly, that it data shared with Google.
