Important information for IT staff who often need to be creative and who are often stuck immobile for long periods of time.

This is a really big deal for me and why I find it super important to have my own private office space where I can walk regularly while working (I pace to think, and I also clean to think) and why I need a mobile phone so that I can walk while I do calls. I literally am SO much better on the phone when I am able to walk and talk. It's amazing what a difference it makes for me.

I am always pacing around my house/office when working on troubleshooting issues (non focused).
It has always helped me and this explains it.
When working on a programming task (focused) I always sit with headphones on blocking all external stimuli.

I can't handle sitting still while on the phone especially. But I pace to think to (dives @art_of_shred nuts).

Wow. That does make sense. I tend to pace or already be walking while I'm on the phone...

I pace when I talk to people if I'm not sitting at my desk. On the phone I tend to walk through multiple rooms and even outside without realizing what I'm doing.

Same here, I go all over.

I most often talk on the phone with family and friends at night these days... as I am wanding around the neighborhood. I have my dog with me to make sure we make it back home, lol.

Makes for an interesting problem when you combine this with open office spaces. Or even with cubicles.

That's one of the reasons that I like having a nice home office... I can stand, walk and keep myself "busy" while I am thinking. It makes me feel good about not wasting time while thinking, while helping me to think better, while getting some physical activity. It also helps to keep my house clean and organized
