Virtualization Build - Punch holes in this build please

Ouch a 20% increase.
I have to agree with the ask.. .do you need 24 cores? Would 12 be enough?

The same thing could be said for what if the server dies, that I should diversify my server fleet.
That's not how it is handled in the real world. Even the most demanding environments use matched hardware. You don't avoid buying two of the same car model to diversify hardware, right? Issues are either obvious or don't affect you simultaneously. Going to a different vendor randomizes in such a way that it puts you in more risk rather than less.

To avoid issues such as firmware bugs etc.
Better to just stagger installs. That's what big firms with very critical workloads do.

Warranties are to protect the equipment and of course the warranty could be reduced for the second system.
But its the warranty to protect the equipment for the usable life.
His question is... why pay for such a fast response when you have a failover system to keep you running?
If Dell can get you repaired in just over four hours, what justifies the cost of the second physical server and all of the Windows licensing necessary to use it when you will be back up shortly?
Why four hour and not next business day, for example?

Or six?
Generally SMBs need only for to six cores on Intel Xeons and even that is often hardly utilized.

That price bump makes looking at other solution types that much more attractive, that is a lot of the buffer room removed.

Yeah, at $36k for the hardware, you can pretty much get 2 scale units one for on site and one for off.

LOL you missed a comma - at first glance it appears that you are suggesting he can get three Scale units

Last check in you thought that you were just about to order it, but that was two months ago. Any follow up since then?
