I just can say that buy a house in USA is cheaper than in Spain.
Good look.
Where are you looking in Spain? Everywhere I've seen in Spain was a fraction of US prices.
Cities in Spain are really expensives, just check this webpage
Remeber last 4 year prices down about a 30%
When I was in Madrid last year, prices were about 20% of that in Texas, one of the cheapest parts of America. 20%.... 80% lower. Spain is so cheap that we talk about buying homes there on a whim when we can't afford them in the US.
Look for the price of a house in Madrid, or near to Madrid, Alcobendas, Alcorcón...
Also remember the salary in Spain repect to USA.

I worked in Madrid a little and they were paying much less to rent than in Dallas as well. It was so cheap, we couldn't believe it.
Yes, the salaries are lower, I'm not saying that there isn't a struggle. But in raw prices, I can easily buy a house in Spain than a house in the US.
Also keep in mind, Madrid should be closest to NYC, not Dallas. When you compare services and such. And as such, Madrid is super cheap.

Just put in a $203,000 offer on this house.

Good luck!

Nice!
That HOA fee is really high though. Is that always the case in your area?

HOAs are the worst. We will never live in a place with one again. They can be fine, but they bring so much long term risk.

Luckily we don't have many where I live. Houses were put in very quickly during the 60s (boom of the space age). It's not uncommon to see a mansion and a shack right next to each other here. The area was mostly undeveloped before the 60s so any houses that are older are likely to have prime real estate and you see quite a few shacks that have waterfront property since they have been on the land since it was dirt cheap.

What's an HOA?
-
Home Owner's Association.

Home Owners Association. Kind of like the organized crime of home ownership in the US.

Like a development or plan in the north. It's a Home Owner's Association. They're also almost evil.

Sounds like a scam...
-
So why would anyone live in a state with that crap?

No "like" about it.

Usually they(HOA's) are a scam. You mean I buy this property for however much, and then on top of my mortgage I have to pay monthly for the "right to be here". Sure I get some perks like club house use or whatever that HOA might have.
But how often are you going to use it?

Because just up and changing your nationality over home ownership laws is more than more people are willing to consider.

Well, they come from a good idea. The idea is that people will keep their property in check to keep values up. A lot of them also have stuff like yard maintenance, road maintenance, etc. But they end up being a group of people that have power over the others and can force people to do what they want.

Mine in NY are the worst. Nearly $400/mo and sure we get a pool and playground and gym, but we use them little (never now as we don't live there.) And they mow and stuff, that part is good. But it is overly complex and they send out all kinds of threats, make it scary to live there, invade our privacy and make us want to sell the house based on the HOA alone.

Like my wife's cousins live in an HOA in Vero Beach. Their fence must be a certain height, and if their driveway is ever dirty they get a certified letter to make them power wash it. If the trees get too big they make them trim them. It gets really out of hand.
