Seriously going to further look into a backup generator for the house... I've had power fail once on me in the last two years though so I doubt there will be a need.

Must be nice. I grew up in the Rochester area so it was a continuous problem there. No matter where I've lived in the world constant power outages have been an issue from Texas to Central America to Ithaca to Europe...

Wow... I've never had too much of a problem with power. I've lived in central and northeast Georgia all my life!

I haven't had many power outages in the Rochester area (meaning what do you consider "Constant")

          Maybe 3-6 in my life..

That's funny, when I was living in Rochester (downtown in a not so good part of the city) we had 3-5 power outages a semester. It was kind of silly. Thankfully RIT always had power so I just went on campus generally.

Our power goes out at least a half dozen times a year. Most times for just a few seconds (but enough to knock things out). But our infrastructure here is very old.

Almost makes it worth having UPSes on stuff in your home... If not a generator for the whole house.!

Living in that area it was way more than that a year. And I remember times that like my school was without power for two full weeks. A single outage of two weeks!!

I do plan on getting a whole-house generator at some point. Of course, I've been "planning on it" for about 10 years now. It will probably happen for real in the next 2-3 years. Maybe sooner, if Eaton has them for the prices I saw yesterday...

It is extremely common out there for people to have generators. When I lived out there we were planning to get one but moved instead. Because I need a CPAP and because power outages so often extend more than a day, it would be a necessity. Otherwise I'd have to go to a hospital just to get sleep!

Absolutely. That's a lower price and a bigger name brand than what I was looking at for the house in Geneseo ten years ago.

@scottalanmiller Two weeks with no power? I think that only happened once... Ice Storm of '91; and that was fairly epic.

We haven't had an outage like that in a long time. 6-7 hours yes but a whole week thankfully not.

I only mentioned it happening one time. But school was only four years long, so the rate was once every four years from my observation 😉

But power outages were common, just not normally that long.

Actually, you said "times", and then emphasized that 2 weeks was for a single outage and not multiple linked together, if you read it properly. 😉

Yes, we have had relatively unstable power here in this area for our entire lives. Now that the business is here and relies on consistent power, it seems even more noticeable.

Before there were computers running around the clock, desktops or otherwise, the constant blips in power didn't matter much. A lot happened at night and no one would notice or they were a few minutes here or there throughout the day. Now that CPAPs cut off your air, AC stops, computers reboot, UPSs alarm even the five minutes here and there becomes very noticeable.
