Uninstall WinZip push, set Windows Explorer as the default zip client.
-
When out PCs were imaged Winzip Trial edition was installed on all PCs. We have dealt with this for a while since Winzip is so nice and just makes you wait a few seconds before starting use of the evaluation version. Now PCs are having to wait up to 500 days (5-10 seconds) before they can launch WinZip.
I created a ticket to uninstall winzip on all the PCs and a couple people in IT voiced their concerns with it. I know using Windows Explorer will work just fine, but they are uneasy about it. That is why I want to make the change as seemlessly as possible. So good, its almost a secret.

I'm confused. Why are IT people concerned about removing WinZip? What is the concern around?
-
It has been used to create most zip files. 7Zip and Windows Explorer can open password protected files without an issue, though.
-
If you didn't pay for it, isn't that piracy? Or does Winzip allow businesses to use it with the nag screen forever? Honestly not trying to be an ass.
-
Do people still buy WinZip then?
-
I use 7Zip if I need something more than windows provides.
-
We've been in 7zip for about a decade.
-
Same here.

Definitely a bad thing form the IT department that originally put it on the image. WinZip has never been free to use like that. Just because people do it does not mean it is right.

I've never read the Eula since I never considered installing it but I'm pretty sure that the time after the trial was actually a violation. The kind if stuff that the BSA looks for.
