Windows 10 local Dymo labler takes over as default printer
-
Here's a new one.
I watched as a user set their default printer to a network printer, then opened the Dymo labeler software, printed a label and the default changed itself to the Dymo printer.
The Dymo is the only local printer on the machine.
Anyone seen any weirdness like this?

OK Changed search options in Google and found

Windows 10 Fall update introduced a new option in Printers and Scanners (the new version of Devices and Printers - you can't find the setting in the old version in the control Panel, you must use the new version).
Control Panel > Devices, scroll down below your list of devices and see the option called "Let Windows manage my default printer"
Wow - WHO WOULD WANT THIS?
-
hehehehe
It's probably something to enable better management through GP's if I had to guess

They got rid of the change default printer based upon WIFI network you were attached to that was introduced in Windows 7. That function actually made a bit of sense, even if it didn't work in my environment because we have one SSID for every location (does anyone not do that?)

@Dashrender More specifically, the options says it will change the default based on last used. For most home users this is an interesting change. For an office, it is f[moderated] stupid.
All the "big" accounting packages use various printers for packing slips, invoices, etc. This will wreak havoc on everything in those environments.

Interesting. look at the comparison.

Just UG!

Sure enough - I installed my Dymo printer over the weekend. and it was set as the default.
WTheck is MS thinking..

FYI, it has nothing to do with Dymo... it's a new setting that makes the last printer the default for the next print job.

@Dashrender
I understand. Just so happens, the Dymo was the last printer I used...
