Having just done an IP scheme change a month or so ago, I'm A DHCP Reservations believer. Made the process so simple.

Anyway, he said even if there is a reservation, if that thing goes to sleep, then other things can still snatch up that IP address because it's in the pool.
That makes no sense at all. He's thinking of DHCP Preferences, not related to Reservations. The entire concept of a reservation doesn't mesh with this definition at all.
Imagine if you had a restaurant reservation that only worked if you were already at the restaurant waiting. No need for a reservation if you are already there and have the table, right? Completely nonsensical.
Reminds me of Seinfeld and his car reservation
Oh this is one of my favorite scenes. Absolutely hilarious!

RE: Domain controller server 2012
@dustinb3403 I think he's wanting a new domain. He's saying he's got lots of problems and wants to start fresh.
I don't know if that's necessarily required based on the info. It sounds like file permission issues and maybe some Group Policy issues. For the file share, you could just spin up a new server (assuming you have the licensing) and robocopy everything over to it and slowly rebuild permission as you see fit. Once you get everything setup just right, do one last sync and then shut down the old server.
Shared Drive access and printers not printing may be more group policy related.

RE: Recommendations for Cameras
Local security vendor I know is setting us up with Vitek camera system. He really likes them and speaks highly of them. He's been in the business for a while and used various brands, so his recommendation went a long way. I think they're reasonably priced as well.
16 Channel NVR with built-in 16 port POE switch roughly $1,000. No recurring costs.
4MP 1080p Dome Cameras were about $220 each.

Looking at my desk top, Working on a ticket and I see that i have a warning on the internet in the bottom right.
Apparently I am connected to the network, but i have no internet access. But Im on ML.. and on our tickets and can search and surf the web with no issues..
Even my computer thinks its Monday.I had this issue with my pihole. For some reason it started blocking the MS domain that needed access for this to work. I had to go in and whitelist it and everything situated itself.

RE: Remote Desktop Connection Prerequisites
@g-i-jones That's interesting that we don't have the same issue then. Glad you got it resolved.

RE: Remote Desktop Connection Prerequisites
Yeah so I'm running a Server 2016 VM and after I reboot it, I can log on from RDP no issue. Same settings as you listed in OP. Must be something else.
After a reboot, can you ping the server before logging in locally? If it's running any applications/services, are they accessible prior to login?
I've had one server act in this fashion before, and it just wouldn't connect to the network without logging into it locally. It was an older Server 2008 box, and did it intermittently. Never really looked that deep into it since it was one machine and once I logged in everything went to normal.

@pete-s Services>Remote Desktop Services>Properties>Startup Type was set to Manual on all the servers. ::man_facepalming_medium_skin_tone:
Haven't tested it yet, but if I had to guess, that'd be the issue. Thanks!
Hmmm I'm pretty sure my Services are setup that way as well by default (Manual start), and I don't have this issue. If I restart a VM and then RDP into it from my desktop, it connects right away without requiring local logon first. I'm waiting on one of my servers to finish updates so that I can verify for sure though. Be back in a few hours...

I think if the funding is indeed secured as his tweet stated, that he'll get a slap on the wrist ultimately. However, if for whatever reason any talks don't come to fruition and they remain public, I think he'll catch a lot of flack and be in bigger trouble from the SEC as well as investors who will look to file class action suits.

Not public, does not mean there are not shareholders. Just that they are not traded on a public exchange.
Haha I knew when I typed that someone would say that. I almost spent extra time clarifying, but didn't. Yes there are possibly other shareholders/part-owners involved. Those few individuals can scrutinize the ownership/financials all they want for their company. (If they want to sell, it's probably a bit more convoluted than just hitting up ETrade.) The general public has no view into that info though and it's mostly irrelevant to them. In the case of UBNT, it just applies to a wider audience since there are many more investors that they're relying on to keep happy and keep the company's value as high as they can.

@storageninja Is Mark Cuban CEO of a young, public company that's in full growth mode? He may be, I don't know. It seems to me like he's most focused on the Mavs these days and his other business ventures are side projects/investments. Not minimizing his other investments, it just seems like the Mavs is where most of his attention goes. I don't follow every Mark Cuban move though so I could be wrong here.
I know he's invested in Shark Tank TV.
Edit: Or at does other things besides being an owner of the Mavs.
Yes, many wealthy people have diverse investments. Even people not considered "wealthy" can have diversified investment portfolios. We're talking about where is a person spending the majority of their time and energy. In Mark Cuban's case, I'm guessing based on the many interviews I see him do and such that his main passion these days is the Cavs and that's where the most of his time and energy goes. Additionally, the Cavs aren't publicly traded, therefore there aren't necessarily shareholders who are pushing him to make the Cavs as profitable as possible.
I haven't really followed this story that much since bringing it up. I haven't invested either way, but I am curious to see how the investigation turns out.

Working on planning a trip to the Nicaragua office. Looking like it will be January. And potentially a roadtrip with the old roommate through Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize while there.
How are things in Nicaragua? We got pulled back at the airport back in April when all the rioting broke out. Our mission home directed us not to come that things weren't safe. Have things simmered down?

RE: Windows servers- move files from old to new
Just disable the share or turn off the old server. Take a full backup of it to keep and move on.

RE: Windows servers- move files from old to new
This is how I did it the last time we migrated our file server a few years back. If I'm not mistaken, we did this the first time and let everything copy over while live, and then we ran it again later after we shut down the shares to ensure any changes that were made or new files, attributes, etc got copied over. The second time, it recognizes if the file is already there and just skips over it so it's much simpler. Then you just recreate the shares on the destination and you're done.
robopy source destination /E /COPYALL /DCOPY:T /R:3 /W:10 >C:\Robocopy.log /E = copy subdirectories, including empty ones /COPYALL = copies Data, Attributes, Timestamps, Security, Owner info, and Auditing Info /DCOPY:T = copies directory timestamps (COPYALL only does file timestamps) /R:3 = retry 3 times (default is 1 million) /W:10 = wait 10 seconds before trying again (default is 30 seconds) /MT:n = enables multi-threaded option which is supposed to speed up process. Default is 8. Can be between 1-128. https://techjourney.net/robocopy-syntax-command-line-switches-and-examples/

@zachary715 What kind of food is it?
It's classified as Mexican, although it's unlike most of the other Mexican joints in my area. It's comparable to a Chipotle Grill if you're more familiar with that franchise. I've eaten at Chipotle though and I much rather prefer Qdoba.

@zachary715 Yeah I'm not saying its easy. I struggle with getting up. I do feel better and have more energy throughout the day when I do though.
Same, it's hard when I'm not in bed before 11. Today was the first day this week I went in this morning. Gonna also try to thursday and friday. Three days is better than none. Maybe Saturday morning, but might not have time. When I go saturdays, I take the kids to their childwatch (YMCA) and they play there for up to 2 hours.
Ha I'm in bed by 8:30 or 9:00. I still need to get my 8 hours of sleep. I can get up at 5am though and be back by 6:30am before the wife and daughter are awake.
