My stepfather has 4 that are linked to different machines via software the simulates the mouse movement across screens seamlessly. He likes having Fedora but also has to have windows for some in house applications.

I use 1 at work and two at home.

      Syngergy?

I have 3 at work. 2 at home on one system and 1 on another system. I would like more. I am going to be switching out my 23" 1080 monitors at work, for 27" or larger 4k monitors. If I am sitting on the couch with my laptop, I get frustrated by the lack of screens lol.

@scottalanmiller I setup a fedora server last night and started installing salt.

What happened? Dnf install salt-master got hung up and didn't finish?

lol - I installed it but still need to configure it.

This is what I had to deal with. And this is pared down from what it was. Now, I can close the door on this rack. Most of those cables were terminated improperly. Move something and someone lost connectivity.

Same with this rack. Tons of re-cabling.

We had slightly fewer mailboxes. I did a 6-year projection for just the software licensing costs of Exchange 2016 vs Office 365 Business Premium and since we already used proplus, the self-hosted Exchange was far more costly. Obviously, if you aren't already using an Office365 plan in some regards, the comparison is going to be closer.

You mixed licensing the desktop clients with the server licensing. those are separate and distinct needs.

Agreed. However, when discussing Office 365, they are usually intertwined.

      Never.

OK. Please explain how they don't offer licensing packages/tiers with both, Exchange online and the client software.

I never said they did not. You keep injecting shit here.

      OK. Good luck.

There is PRTG but last I check only give you 10 (free) sensors. So can only monitor one or two host at best. Last I used it many moons ago it was a very complex product to setup & use.

Also try https://mikrotik.com/thedude. Never used it but have heard of it.

PRTG 100 is now free. That means 100 free sensors.

If they are using Outlook, how are they licensed? Will they continue to use the full Outlook client if you go with Office 365 or Exchange? If that is the case, you probably need to factor the tier that includes the office software for Business, etc.

Now that the bulk of this project is done, I might be able to dedicate some more time to getting Saltstack going. Although, I just found out they are planning an e-commerce site launch for one of our brands and didn't include me in the initial phases. #ThisPlace

    • RE: Dell server and storage...

I had looked into getting some Intel ssds to put in the cachecade bays on my R720XDs a few years ago. Everyone said that they got the predictive failures or other warning on them because they didn't have the Dell firmware. I didn't end up doing it because I don't need a constant false positive that distracts or hides actual potential issues.

@WrCombs that being said, we do order Actual Dell enterprise SSDs when we put flash in production machines.

You mean except that Dell manufacturers zero SSDs so it's actually a Samsung, Intel or something else?

Right. The drives Dell uses have Dell specific firmware.

@Obsolesce said in Creating a Shortcut for Chrome Incognito with Proxy Settings:

Why are you shortcutting to a script and not Chrome shortcut with those arguments?

Windows wouldn't let me create a shortcut with the initial arguments in that syntax. Per the second to last post, I have since been able to create the proper syntax for the shortcuts. I had to remove the http:// and quotes around the proxy server option.

My problem now lies in how best to deploy the Chrome shortcuts. For whatever reason, a GPO doesn't create the shortcut. The same GPO will create a shortcut to the script, just not the specialized Chrome shortcut.
