Hi,
I recently stumbled upon OpenVAS ... has anyone used it ?
@Dashrender said in What If You Didn't Need to Replace Hard Drives:
RAM won't improve system performance nearly as much as an SSD will, assuming you already have 4 GB of RAM, in a typical Office environment.
But as tiagom mentions, do you really need 500 GB drive? 120 GB drives are more than enough for most of my users. Windows 10, Office 2016, Dragon Medical v12 all fit in under 60 GB. my users save all data to network drives so the left over extra desktop space is not used.
Almost never, even with apps like Photoshop or AutoCAD installed ... In any case, I always prefer having around 30% of disk-space to be free ..
I'm just comparing cost/GB, which is typically how the pricing for storage works ..
Yes, SSDs do give a performance boost, but where desktops are concerned, when the client sees the price difference, they're willing to live without it ..
We've experienced rather low HDD failures rates on desktops ... Plus, Cost/GB of SSD drives is way more than that of SSDs ... A 500GB SSD = $215 as opposed to $60 for a 500GB SATA (6 Gbps) makes it a "Not Worth it" for most .. We've almost never had a client requiring/requesting for a SSD for desktops .. A common response we've received is "Wow, that's a significant price difference. I would rather spend that extra $$ on RAM etc.."
Also, what about regions ? Some vendors may not have presence in certain regions, or they may have presence in just a certain region, but may still harass via repeated calls...What if I want to have the vendor's number black-listed, and no one else is from that region ?

Do most people get calls from central company numbers, or the sales reps numbers? I get most of mine from the sales reps numbers... You could say "$person at $company is harassing me every day for this sale that I'm not giving them. Here's their direct line for blacklisting.... Also got a call from $otherPerson at $sameCompany today and they are just as bad. Here's their number too."
But in other cases it comes from a central number...
Most sales reps, in my region, are on the field, for most parts . So, when we get cold calls, it's usually from their cell number ..
Perfect... then their number could get specifically blocked, and not affect their rest of their company with a company-wide block. However, I have had some vendors before where their culture is obvious. Every sales rep is taught the same and it is toxic. Everyone in the community knows about them, so they get a company-wide ban.
but, what if, I'm genuinely being harassed by a vendor, and I want to join this community based black-list, but just cause 2 old-timers on the community have never been harassed by that particular vendor, it's not black-listed

we keep our own internal blacklist for pushy or harassing vendors. I had to actually cut one off the other day. I think a public one would be too easily abused / require too much verification and maintenance
I agree ...
@scottalanmiller - while I back your intent, I don't think a community based black-list would work ...

So, you're saying IBM is not reputable ? , huh ?
Definitely not. I've worked there, even IBM won't use IBM equipment. They are harassing by both email and phone. They are not what I'd call reputable in many contexts of that term.
(Just for the sake of this thread ) "Sir, I think IBM is a very reputable company .. I work for IBM, it seems like you've had a bad experience during your tenure with IBM, which is way you are defaming out company"
So, you're saying IBM is not reputable ? , huh ?
So, how would this black-list work ? Would it be moderated ? How ?
"I'm thinking NTG is direct competitor .. wait, I have an idea .. let me add their name to vendor black-list ... just for shits n giggles ...hehehe ... :rowboat_tone4: "
How do we avoid a situation like this ?
seems nice .. will give it a go, for sure .. Thanks Ambarishrh

We use Trello. Free and everyone seems to love it. Tried Asana for a while but prefer Trello.
Thanks. That product looks pretty good, too!
Yes, Trello is pretty interesting, but they don't have a self-hosting/on-premise option...
Seems like everything else has moved to the cloud already, so that's not a big deal for me.
If you like Trello, check-out Exo Platform ...

@Veet ok, if you have any questions related to ONLYOFFICE, please contact me.
:thumbsup_tone1: Thanks
@Tati said in Team Collaboration Tools:
@Veet yes, using one of the available virtual machines with ONLYOFFICE pre-installed, you get Community Server, Document Server and Mail Server, the whole system to organize your remote team collaboration.
Thanks ... I'll download a VM image
@Tati said in Team Collaboration Tools:
@Veet To avoid this, you can always install ONLYOFFICE using Docker script or virtual machines with the office suite pre-installed - http://www.onlyoffice.com/download.aspx
Would that allow installation of both, the Community server as well as Document server, on the same VM ?
Hi,
This may be off-topic, I don't see many people talk of AD RMS, with or without Gigaworks / Secureislands etc..
