@scottalanmiller I should post the 2-node setup I just configured with 15TB of storage. I bet my 16k price was half of that purchase price and will out perform that setup.

Could you post some details in a dedicated thread? I'm looking for something very similar (2 nodes, mirrored storage like StarWind Virtual San etc).

      Good morning folks.

      Time for coffee.

PS I wish I were off today, the town assessor is coming over to tell us what he's willing to pay us for our land....

"Good morning"... I'm about to leave work in 2 hours or so 😉

wondering what to tackle today, while I wait for a smart switch to arrive and someone to look at my Citrix Server that's not talking to the controller thingy.

You could join me fighting an embedded H2 database server. Stupidest SQL syntax I've seen so far - and I'm working with DB's since DB2 and dBase III...

@meghal You see what may happen if you are not giving enough details.

There could be lots of reasons. Maybe that site is blocked or only allowed from specific IP subnets, just for example.

@Dashrender said in website for MangoCon?:

      Yes the mangocon website.

      Thanks

But there is still a circling thing on the main page - so it's not working correctly.

Refresh it. For some reason it has an issue loading the image the first time. Just hitting F5 seems to fix it every time.

Yeah, but it's taking ages. I'm on 10GBit/s on a decent backbone at work on a very powerful workstation (Dual Xeon, plenty of RAM, SSD, bla bla, 1GBit/s dedicated bandwith on the uplink) and it's still like surfing on a P4 when you visit the site with empty caches. Maybe you should disable the preloading stuff, it's always causing more trouble than helping with "user experience".

Well, maybe some other time. Would love to attend, but would most probably have to pay that myself. Also, all my vacation days are planned like 6 months ahead.

Oh, I didn't get that from the OP at all. Why would you want an insecure management interface?

Assuming it's internally accessible only. Who cares.

Also very few routers and switches let you easily add valid certificate. So even with HTTPS it is still not secure

There are quite a few differences in the level of security. In the worst case, he won't transmit plaintext credentials in case of some self signed certificate. In the best case, Op can be next to sure that he isn't affected by man in the middle or something similar by having a certificate with a valid chain of trust. Having management interfaces on the same (V)LAN as clients, printers and what not is another story.

Long story short: Better self signed certs than no encryption at all.

I have never liked SonicWALL devices. They're a PITA IMO. But I suppose if you spend the time with them, and don't mind a bit of frustration - they have their place.

Like for anyone addicted to pain?

I just don't get it. Used ipchains/iptables/pf in the past and pfSense since, erm, 10 years? No more PITA...

Whether UEFI needs to be done for the machine ???
There is no speaker present in the board so unable to hear sound when the RAM is taken out from the board.

Whar exactly? And which OS are you using? You need to supply as much information as possible, we can't help otherwise.

    • RE: Random Thread - Anything Goes

@scottalanmiller Well, at least here, that's what people are interessted in. And it isn't about just a few, it's about whole industries with millions of employees:

      • 5 day work week (1959)
      • Paid vacation time consessions (1962)
      • 40 hr work week (1965–67)
      • Paid sick leave (1970)
      • 35 hr work week (attempts not yet successful 1984)
      • 34 hr work week in metal industry (1995)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IG_Metall

Green chart here is salary increase since 1993: http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/vergleich/entwicklung1/

And that's all what a lot of people care about.

Edit: This doesn't reflect my personal opinion!

@scottalanmiller I know there are completely different views about unions between the US and Europe/Germany. There are some good points about them, at least here, but I don't like them for the most part. Had a really hard time to get a good paying job in the public sector because of the rules made by those unions...

Just started to refresh my CV, do I put salary expectations on there or leave that to the interview??

that might be a UK thing, but in the US you would never put that. Both it is socially unacceptable (no idea why) and practically it makes no sense since there are so many factors that a number cannot express it.

Quite usual here too... No one likes it, it doesn't make sense, but you are required to do so. HR's are basically looking at that number first - and that's the stupidest thing I can imagine. Never did that myself, but that comes at a price.

That really favors the business and is detrimental to the individual.

Aye - and wasn't Germany one of the countries with the most organized and powerful labor unions? ...

I'm somehow unsure about Grim Dawn. It's a nice oldschool game, much like Titan Quest (ha, guess why!), but it seems to lack something. Can't say what, I just don't know yet.

And balancing isn't good at all, my very first build is way overpowered. Didn't upgrade my equip for the last 8 levels and now it's getting just a bit harder.
