To keep a Boeing Dreamliner flying, reboot once every 248 days
I had a friend send me this as soon as I saw it I had to share.
http://www.engadget.com/2015/05/01/boeing-787-dreamliner-software-bug/
"The 787 Dreamliner has been plagued with battery woes since its early days, to the point where the Federal Aviation Administration kept it from flying the skies in the past. And while those technical difficulties are apparently taken care of, Boeing's flagship airliner could be on the way to more trouble soon. According to the FAA, there's a software bug in the 787 Dreamliner that can cause its electrical system to fail and, as a result, lead to "loss of control" of the plane. But why? The FAA says this is triggered by the aircraft's electrical generators, which could give out if they have been powered on continuously for over eight months. "A Model 787 airplane that has been powered continuously for 248 days can lose all alternating current electrical power due to the generator control units simultaneously going into failsafe mode," the FAA said in a statement warning of the flaw. "We are issuing this AD to prevent loss of all AC electrical power, which could result in loss of control of the airplane." Boeing, for its part, is aware of the problem and has reset the power on 787 Dreamliners currently in service. Most importantly, the company's already working on an update that will patch the software vulnerability -- though there's no word on when its jets will receive it."
Can you imagine the tech support call?

RE: CloudatCost and Fibernetics April to May Outage
Im just going to leave this right here
"2) Service Interruption Credits
If Services are interrupted for a period of at least 24 hours after notice by the Customer to CloudatCost, an allowance equal to 1/30th of any fixed billing cycle charges for the affected Service shall apply to each full 24 hour period during which the interruption continues. Credit in any billing period shall not exceed the total average monthly charges for that period for the affected Service. No allowance shall apply to any non-recurring or usage charges. The Customer's sole and exclusive remedy for Service interruption shall be the credit outlined above
The Customer must request credit within thirty (30) days of the validated interruption, failing which the Customer forever waives its right to any credit for such outage. CloudatCost reserves the right to determine in its sole and absolute discretion if an interruption is considered a validated interruption.
At no time will multiple remedies be provided to the Customer for same, similar or related troubles for the same service. Customer payables must be current prior to the Customer receiving any credits
No credit shall be provided for interruptions due to the following:
the failure of any component, software, network or system provided by the Customer or a third party;
network maintenance by CloudatCost;
Force Majeure events;
acts or omissions, negligent or otherwise, of the Customer or a third party, or any breach of any term or condition by the Customer of the Master Services Agreement or any schedules or addenda attached thereto." -

So one thing I will say I don't like about AWS is the names for everything. A VM is an instance. Firewall rules are under security group, which to me is users and those users' permissions. They seemed to go out of their way to make all the names of standard stuff as unique to them as possible, and that is a little irritating, IMHO.
They think they are cisco lol

RE: Chrome devs hatch plan to mark all HTTP traffic insecure
I am thinking they need to tell you what is not using SSL when SSL is turned on in a site. Like on facebook or some bank sites. When it says "other resources that are not secure" I want to know what is that resources and can I tell it to not use it.

My wife is the worst for the exact opposite. The other day she asked me for a changer. I asked why and she said my phone is at 85%.........
I bet she eats through phone batteries like crazy. There is a reason why our iPads get "like new" battery life at five or more years old!
Yeah thats why I never get her anything with the battery built in. I know of this battery rule you are talking about but what you really need to watch for is what the battery is made of. If it is a LiPo battery and you run it to less then %10 when the battery cells die or they get hot. Now with NiMH you can run them to 0 and they will be fine but if you are storing them they need to have somewhat of a charge in them.
Here is a site with more info on batteries then you will ever need
