Just got asked by the head of IT for the Americas to run ping tests against internal IPs for troubleshooting purposes, which would be great, except ICMP is completely shut down internally. facepalm

Maybe the test was to see if it was successfully blocked everywhere... success!

Or maybe the guy was just testing his knowledge of the network and TCP/IP functions.

      Exactly.

No, because this isn't the first time, and it won't be the last. Two and a half more weeks. That's all I gotta deal with.

Creator of Ghost in the Shell doesn't care. Said that it's not even a real human body and therefore has no race. I do still think they whitewash the hell out of everything in hollywood though

And the whitewashing of this is horrible. Although, I did hear William Dafoe is supposed to play Ryuk in a Death Note movie, and I must say that I approve. Take his face when he's crazy Green Goblin from the original Sam Reimi Spiderman movie, make it resting crazy and not active crazy, and that's the fucking face of Ryuk. It will be interesting to see how they do it. But as a casting choice, I can't argue that one.

Chilling and waiting for a buddy to come over

      Whoa!
Havenโ€™t seen you in a while. How goes things?

Heh, it's been a crazy few years. So much has changed that it's hard to know where to start. I've been with my partner Amanda for 5.5 years now. Saving to buy a home currently. Turning 30 this year, which I couldn't be more excited for!! My tenish-year plan from 21 has had all the main highlights ticked off, and now I'm gearing up and planning the next stage, which will involve me finally working for myself. Let's see... I fixed my credit, took down a toxic manager at work about two years ago, settled a lawsuit in my favor against a hyper-conservative business for rescinding a job offer because of the presence of cannabis on the drug test and knowing I understood the law better than their COO, who made the call, did. That one was particularly satisfying because none of my friends thought I had a chance and I was confident in my case and it paid off.

Let's see, I picked up playing Magic the Gathering, specifically EDH or commander. It's so much fun! I play with paper cards online with people all around the world on a regular basis which is freaking cool. I weigh the same now as I did when I graduated high school except I'm 2" taller and was a 40x34 pant vs a 34x34 now. I have spent a lot of time trying to get my health in order, physically and mentally. Life is still life and I did get COVID in January, which I'm still feeling effects from so that's put a damper on things.

Overall, my life is tough and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm proud of the challenges I've overcome in the past few years and the odds I've beaten. I'm more secure and confident of the man I'm becoming than I ever even thought possible six or seven years ago. It's actually really weird because SW, MangoLassi, NTG, all of it used to be so front and center in my brain, along with IT and the like. Nowadays, it's completely different and it's interesting to consider the contrast between now and then with who I was and what I believed, how I lived, etc and now.

Obviously this is far from comprehensive but there's both too much to type and plenty I wouldn't share in this arena anyways. One thing I do want to say is: @scottalanmiller I would like to catch up at some point. It's been awhile since I talked to the man who bought me my first legal alcoholic drink and yes, I ordered a mudslide because I'm a bit of a basic bitch. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Why Does It Always Go That Way?

Ok, so maybe I did this back asswards, but in March I found myself in need of a job. Almost exactly a month later, I started at my new job where I am currently employed. Now, I don't know if it just took the system time to get my resume through it but, quite literally, almost to the day I started I had emails flooding in with job opportunities and recruiters from all across the country and from, now, at least a dozen different recruitment firms, both calling and emailing me. Sure, I flooded my resume out there on job boards, to companies, through sites like Indeed, etc but why? JUST WHY?!

Not that I have any experience with this but I hear dating always happens that way. You get a girlfriend, and then suddenly girls start flirting with you. Must be nice to be those guys...ANYWAYS!

I just don't understand why, when I needed to hear from these people, I was grasping at straws for SOMETHING! Then, suddenly I'm off the market and everyone and their uncle wants to contact me with opportunities.

      Has anyone else experienced this?

      Thanks,
      A.J.

    • Feature Requests
      1. We need a feature request group. This gives us a feel for what new users are looking for.
      2. We need a "return to top" option at the bottom of the page or we need to freeze the header pane.

      Thoughts?

Why, if that's the way it works, haven't guys figured out how to beat the system? Just date any girl that comes along and is desperate enough to date you. Then, dangle her like bait so the other girls get curious and move in closer. Then, grab one of them. Could it be that simple? Have I just unwittingly unlocked one of the secret hacks of the universe?

Lots of guys DO do that.

      You said do-do...

Again, with Facebook, sure. I have check-ins, statuses, etc. The reasons for having an account on either site is totally different. It doesn't really matter what LinkedIn set out to be originally. At some point, they saw what they deciphered to be a good logistical move and made it. Again, Facebook and LinkedIn... !=

You are confusing current state with intent. LinkedIn failed at what they set out to do, what you see is them desperately trying to find a way to make money with questionable ethics.

I'm not. So they set out to be a business Facebook. So what? In business, you strive to make money. Method A isn't working. They tried Method B. They may have gathered information originally with a certain purpose in mind but that doesn't make them slight or deceitful. They set out on a course and it didn't work. They changed course. There is nothing dishonest here. Trying something and it not working and then trying something new...what's wrong with that? What are they supposed to do? DBAN all their drives and tell everyone that they were wrong going one way so let's all start over and go another? What you're saying doesn't make sense and you contradict yourself. If they had originally had their current model as the end game and set out in another way to get information sneakily, then that's one thing. You yourself said though that they changed to this when the other didn't work. You honestly sound a little paranoid...
