RE: UK Proposes Stripping Privacy Rights
This is just another atempt to compromise our privacy, if they carry on the UK will end up a nanny state. This is deeply worrying.
All major ISP's have already been ordered by our government to keep internet history of everyone, a law passed without the consulting of the people.
Don't they understand that invading privacy is not going to stop terrorism, this subject winds me up because it's always these politicians suggesting these ideas without any technical knowledge.
Eventually they will implement control of how we use the internet, implement blocks to social media during voting of governments, may seem extreme but this happens in China and Turkey.

RE: Bitcoin
Government like banning something they cannot control, I bet the banks and governments are getting very concerned about Cryptocurrency.
It's similar to the internet at the minute, British government are already trying to look at ways of controlling it, our government has already made ISP's retain all internet history for up to a year for all uk residents for our main Providerers, all in the name of trying to say it will make us safer against terrorism, it's a load of shit.. its all about control.
We even have to buy a TV licence in the uk to watch live tv, that's sepperate fee from the tv providers like sky and virgin (cable), if you don't pay it you can be threatened with a hefty fine or prison.
My moral of my rant, if it's annoying the government, that does please me slightly...

RE: NHS England - Cyber-ouch...
the WannaCry ransomware was patched back on march the 14th by Microsoft, so If systems were updated this could of been prevented...this does stress how important security updates really are..

RE: Microsoft putting MSPaint out to pasture
Will be removed automatically with the Next update I should imagine , I use Linux for some servers, but it won't be long before my full personal desktop will move over, getting the hump with these forced updates and features.
If I have a program installed, I would like it to stay and not be removed automatically just because Microsoft want to, I'm sure we will all be on monthly subscriptions for our O.S soon as well.

RE: Protek Support MSP Ransomware Hits Customers in Salt Lake City, Utah
I Hope the MSP and client(s) manage to sort everything out. I can't help thinking this will be quite damaging for the provider and wouldn't like to see people loose clients and potentially their jobs.
Lessons are always learned when something serious happens like this though. -
RE: UK To Fine Some Service Agencies if Found with Inadequate Security
@scottalanmiller and these so called people are running our country, scary does not quite describe it.

RE: dbeato why are you migrating from Hyper-V to XCP-ng
Don't see why it matters? Use whatever Hypervisor as long as it's stable and being updated don't see what the issue is?

RE: Managing Windows Local Users with PowerShell
even the net user command looks cleaner:
"net localgroup administrators username /add"
But yep, powershell is the future and that is now defunct....

RE: Miscellaneous Tech News
Crap news about Xenserver, Scott was pretty bang on with how this was going to end up, such a shame as I've loved using Xenserver...

RE: Revisiting ZFS and FreeNAS in 2019
wow, what a read.. like to see Scott has also posted evidence referring to what he's posted, which I like to see as well, this really helps in the discussion. Always got to back up your claims.

RE: Miscellaneous Tech News
Why do Microsoft feel the need to tell us what browser to use? didn't they get in trouble with this years ago regarding browser monopolisation. I just don't think there is any need for it..

Resize Linux VM Ext4 File System Proxmox
I've just completed this and didn't want to use Gparted. I've searched and couldn't find any guides on here so I've created the steps I took to extend an Ext4 partition without data loss. I extended the VM storage size in proxmox:
WARNING!!!!!! -Backup all data first! accidentally entering the wrong commands could loose all your data on the partition, extreme caution should be used when extending partitions.
You should also note to check your not using LVM file system. You can check by typing df -h -T – this will show if it’s a EXT4 or LVM partition.
- First shutdown VM
- extend VM storage by the amount you need
- Boot from latest Ubuntu CD (present time 20.04LTS)
- don’t go through installer, select help from top right corner
Select enter shell option, you will now enter a bash shell - get a list off filesystems by typing df -h -T – you should see something like root “/” type ext4
- you can type in fdisk -l to display attached drives.
- my drive is called sda – so type in fdisk /dev/sda
- press p to display partitions
- I have Sda1 and sda2 – sda1 is my boot partition
- You will also see start and end sectors, make a note in case of problems
- enter d to delete partition, so select 2 (we don’t want to delete our boot partition)
- enter p and you will now see the partition is deleted.
- press n to create partition it will say (default 2) just press enter
- it will display first sector with default of your previous partition – just press Enter (don’t change)
- It will then display last sector, once again just press Enter (don’t change)
- it will ask partition #2 contains an ext4 – just say NO to removing signature.
- enter w to write the partition data.
- once you are out of fdisk if you type df -h you will notice size hasn’t extended.
- we have to manually extend the file system with command resize2fs /dev/sda2
you will now see the extended space added in root “/” by typing df -h

RE: Handy Linux Utilities
@pete-s You can setup a mirror port if you have admin access to the switch. which hopefully isn't left with the default login settings.
