pretty much got approval for my leave. been wanting to go on this trip i've been preparing for, for 30+ years.
now it looks like it may be washed out, an ex tropical cyclone is dumping inches of rain all over the place where I want to go.

Interesting. Here in the north and central Texas areas, we have several really long, really historic stock routes. One is like two miles from me here.

Yeah, there's that one from down south to Fort Worth from memory. That's why they call it Cow Town.

I feel your pain today. Even home is not safe for me.... I'd be happy with a full tank of gas in my truck, a 1500 watt power inverter that runs off a cigarette lighter, and an empty parking lot in the middle of nowhere right now. It's just been one of those weeks... and it's only Tuesday.

that doesn't sound like a great week.
you've piqued my interest. what would you do with a full tank of gas, an invertor & a parking lot??

I should have specified an abandoned parking lot, lol. I would have locked myself in the truck and played on my laptop for a day or three, bio breaks not withstanding.

Oddly enough, I'm having a significantly better day today than I had since Thursday of last week. Earlier during the week, my roof sprung a leak in a NEW place. Thursday, Washing machine died, Friday, wife got sick. Cousin came up to help me another leak, and we wound up having to tear off that 20 x 10 section of house down to the trusses. and then rebuild it back to good again. (It's being tested today, lol. No leaks, so far!) So we fixed two leaks over Saturday and Sunday. We found another section (on the other side of this A frame) that needs to be ripped & replaced, meaning I gotta find another $500 for materials to fix a section of roof he found while we were fixing the other two leaks.

My Day job has been a PITA. I took Monday off to clean up some of the construction, take kiddo to doctor, and fix Washing Machine. Tuesday, work was a PITA from me being off on Monday and general stupidness happening all over the place. Today, I'm home with sick kiddo. If there's a male version of PMS, I was definitely suffering from the last few days, lol.

Bloody hell mate, you're having a prick of a time. I hope things pick up for you soon.

@stacksofplates I think I can answer some of that at least 🙂 I have to use it some too. At least its what I manage so I have to open it every now and then. Anyway I just think a lot of people have never tried anything else and they are not learners so don't care to try anything else. Windows isn't horrible, it just does things so much differently than better OS's. Those things it does differently all happen to make the OS less efficient. I'm referring to lack of good shell, registry database, and of course the dreaded update system. I think that users who like Windows just don't deal with those issues at all and never see them. I think there is also a lot less innovation in Windows as well. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, and also because Windows is the OS used in the majority of businesses, schools, colleges etc. People don't know or care about computers, if they could get onto FB and watch videos on a wet soggy sponge they'd all be using wet soggy sponges.

They have no interest in computers so just use what they already know plus the kid down the street can fix the damn thing if it breaks.

What's amazing isn't that people are so useless, but why do companies employ people who are so useless. Sometimes it makes sense, but not in the quantities that they do.

Why are they useless? Is it because they have no interest in computers? I think that is quite normal. Why would everyone be interested in computers?

You may like to qualify your statement?

I don't expect anyone to have an interest in anything other than things that interest them.

You're not displaying the IT equivalent of religious extremism I hope and saying that anyone not interested in computers is an IT infidel.

That's it, Friday arvo, it's beer time.

got an email from my ISP.
they are removing download limits between 0600 - 1800
allowing upgrades of 12/1 DSL and NBN accounts before contract expiry
to help people work from home.

Our largest telco told 20,000 of their workers to work from home starting yesterday. I wonder how their remote access infrastructure held up?

listening to Result of Choice while creating remote access for users who won't remember how to use it as soon as they have to.

I could create some very simple doc for them to follow, but who reads shit and who remembers where you put it anyway!

cut firewood for 3 hours this morning, not used to that manual labor, holding chainsaws up all over the place. got tons of crap in my eyes, where does that crap go when it goes in your eyes? probably ends up with all the socks you lose in the dryer and the other thong you see on the beach.

@nadnerB so I read that the Swan River in Western Australia was named by a Dutch explorer in 1600 & something, but Aus wasn't declared as 'discovered' untill 1770.

So how did the name become known??? There's about 100 years between the 2 events.

Well, the mid westcoast of WA is also known as the Batavia Coast.
Dutch ships used to run aground off the coast on their way to 'the Dutch East Indies'.
IIRC, most of the time was because they were blown off course in/by the roaring 40's/forgot to turn.

Dirk Hartog was one person to make landfall (deliberately).

Mate you went above and beyond there, thanks. I'd better check that out.

I love WA. Can't remember what I was reading but this bloke said he was in lock down up around Broome, said the lockdown area was the size of California but with only about 35,000 people in it.
