embarrassingly getting into some Doors. Morrison Hotel & LA Woman to be exact. Weird hazy memories of drunken dances and non legally compliant inhalants consumed decades earlier.

NO embarrasment allowed. In the 80's, the Doors were the number 1 requested band in South Florida. Might have been the margaritas...

Haha. The 80s. I'm watching Glow S3 ATM, this season is set in the 80s, I'd forgotten how attrocious the fashion & hair was back then.

Going further back doesn't get any better.

      Media Creation Tool

We've been using it for over a year.
Want an ISO? Make it. Need a DVD? Ok. Upgrade in place? It'll handle it for you.

Another layer of this is to follow up the energy question with a why. For example, if I just spent an hour configuring a switch and I feel drained (more than is appropriate), I would ask myself why do I feel more drained. Was it configuring the switch and fighting with the config? Was it because I don't really feel confident in what I'm doing, but I liked it in general? Was it because I kept getting interrupted by users?

I especially like your point about energy. I'd also look at focus, maybe? Are there some tasks that you can do with laser focus -- to the point that you have a hard time being distracted:? -- that type of thought pattern.

is that in the same sense as "When im doing (in my case -) Menu 'programming' Im more bored then excited, but when a Windows Issue comes In I jump on and start working through the issue?

Because menu programming is stupid fucking data entry that a monkey can do

And should be done by the customer's designated person.

it is, they designated their support vendor to do it.

      For shame. Charge them $150/hr.

how did you know what we charge for programming calls over an hour?

      ...
the way it works now is if its under 10 items we'll do it as a favor, If it'll be more than 1 hour of programming you're charged 150 /hr. for labor and it has to be scheduled .

Depending on what the request is, programming is quite expensive. I've seen upwards of $200/hr and no eyes were batted.

EDIT: I've been charged $250/hr for help from OPs at our main software vendor. Don't worry, they deliver for the price.

How can I check SSL Cert Expiration dates? and what's the next step on get an SSL Cert that isn't expired?

what in the hell is a Diffie-Hellman Module?
and how do I get one implemented to be over 2048 bits?

You could bring someone on board right now to help you remediate if necessary. I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who not only know what a DH module is, but how to get you moving in the right direction really fast.

Oh, btw, your payment processor should have loaded the correct encryption modules on your device(s) before they were ever heated up. And they should have been verified before you could even take a card. I hope you don't end up in a mess.

      what do you mean?

All of our payment devices are loaded with encryption modules by the payment processor when we receive them. They also force us to use their firewall / router solution whether behind our firewall or not. When we connect up a payment device or if it's built into the POS, the payment processor transacts the cards. We only get reports of sales. Never card information. Remediation is their responsibility.

Arguing with our tech about attaching the shield in shielded wire to source ground while leaving the other end open.

I can see the problem as both shielding and grounding is complicated. Probably because there are several different reasons for both and the best option in one situation is the worst in another. Was it network cabling or something else?

Just straight up comms. tx rx common shield.

So RS232 I assume. What did he want to do? Ground the shield in both sides?

1st -- since "the shield doesn't really do anything, anyway", he wouldn't connect it to anything.
      2nd -- connect both ends
3rd -- connect it in the endpoint device.
4th -- after I passed along as much information as I could, they finally connected it correctly. I'm sure that someone will take credit for it. I'm ok with that. Just get the damned job done.
And, oh yes, they blew the comm driver chip on the 1st try in the endpoint device. Nice little hole in it.

I'm done with this. Hopefully, they'll have learned. Time will tell.
EDIT: They blamed the issue on overhead wires. The owner and I had a little talk. I'm not interested in getting anyone fired, but I won't let the same bunch hook up the next one without supervision.

That it doesn't do anything anyway. I don't like to fight and argue, but I feel a rage coming on. I've explained and diagrammed. I can introduce him to any number of experienced electricians from residential up through industrial and I doubt he would come on board. Not just grunts. People experienced with heavily inductive environments having to deal with power, control and signal. Oh well. I guess he can afford to buy some boards.

@WrCombs Yeh. 7zip is really good, opens about 4 dozen types of compressed files and is free.
.rar files are going / have gone by the wayside for the most part. You'll still find a lot of them on Usenet, but not elsewhere for for the most part
