Opera: brie and camembert (maybe it's looking for capitalization, but wth?) I know how to spell those soft, ripened cheeses I love.

Would people like to bring family? I highly doubt we will be planning this for summer months (as they are the most expensive to book anything) so it would be during normal school time for anyone with school age children.
I'm all for a conference for grown up professionals. If it were geared toward families primarily, I won't be there. I refuse to wade through other people's kids to try to network and hang out with IT people.
Not kids AT the conference.
Kids all around the hotel at all times is basically the same to me.

Just got an email from CDW that was supposed to go to one of their sales d*cks... Here is the text of the intro:
Hello PETER
Your customer Philip Ruff from E-Ring attended a CDW sponorshed video meetup on August 25th.
Please reach out to your BPLS to contact your customers on Office 365 from CDW. I have added below each of the BPLS by team to the end of this email. Then a screenshot of the SW contest registration page, followed by a big chart of what rep covers what region. I really would like to maximize the hilarity of my response while also causing maximum embarrassment to the sender. I mean, it was over a month ago, ffs.

This thread should go into the "1001 reasons not to be an MSP" book.
Who is writing this book? I have about 1,000 more suggestions for entries!
There will also be "1001 reasons not to work in educational/health care/non-profit IT" (each with its own book, obviously).

Got that right. Security and convenience are mutually exclusive.

I hope I can recreate it this year.... I found out my brother has nowhere to hunt this year, so venison may be in short supply...

I can hear folks in the break room planning the next company chili day.... I wish it was a contest, I'd win every year. Last year I made a spicy venison chili with black and red beans. No leftovers.

Bombay is a London style gin. I'm a Dutch style gin drinker myself. I prefer the powerful impact of the florals.
You, sir, may have ALL my gin... that was the 1st thing I ever got sick drunk on as a teen. Never again, the smell makes my stomach turn. I've tried to taste fancy, floral gin... same result.

There's an idea - since you're allowing him to use Spotify on your network, why not just add his phone to the WiFi, then let him stream through his personal device and then bluetooth to his own speaker? problem solved.
On the company WiFi??? HELL NO! That's why users have their own data plans....
"Not on my network..."

RE: Spotify in locked down environmentposted in IT Discussion
I have plenty of users who might enjoy spotify at work, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let them have it. A "locked down" environment is meant to be just that... and I bet spotify works on his phone just fine.

Is it because of to many failures, so people feel the need to save for bad time?
No idea, maybe. The great depression generation famously lost all of their money to inflation because they hoarded rather than investing. It's a weird paranoia that causes financial recklessness while feeling oddly like being conservative.
Same bad emotional reaction that causes people to buy bonds instead of stocks.
People seem to forget to invest in ammunition... that is the best investment in a collapsing economy. Pieces of paper won't bring you dinner once they are only worth the paper on which they were printed.

Remember Santa’s address: When your letter is ready, drop it in a mailbox anywhere in Canada and the postal elves will make sure it gets to the big man quickly. Santa has a special arrangement with the post office and a stamp is not required. But please remember any other letter or card being sent to Grandma or anyone else needs a stamp. Santa’s address is:

Des Moines is cheap, centrally located, good booze laws (non restrictive), and the people are great....
Seriously? Someone just recommended Des Moines? lol
Have you ever been there? Want a cocktail at 8am? For 1/2 the price of anywhere else in the US? DSM kicks ass.
I live 2 hours west of Des Moines in Omaha, NE. Yep I've been to Des Monies (on purpose) many times... though, never for drinks.
So you can/will attest to the awesomeness of DSM? I have friends there, but that town would charm anyone whose mind was open to it... if you think about it being in Iowa, you're likely to shit all over it before you've given it a chance, but it kicks the hell out of many cities I've visited, including Atlanta (as a native, F*CK ATL, nothing but a bunch of disingenuous hipster douchebags).
edit: Omaha is pretty sweet, too. I'm a big fan of the midwest, because I like to eat meat and spend less doing it.

Downtown DSM is the sh*t.... you can walk everywhere, there is art, culture, great food & drink, did I mention it's CHEAP, there are many tech companies, etc. Ask David Byrne how awesome DSM is....
