    • RE: Any Dungeons and Dragons Players?

      Another player & DM from back in HS days. Mostly fell off during college. Had to be the assortment of games. It was great exercise for the imagination and story crafting. Always had a peeve about campaigns stopping and falling apart. Seems many of those who had been in those campaigns felt computer equivalents were perfect for them.

      Need to have these—

    • RE: PluralSight Acquires New Courses

      @scottalanmiller

      Interesting. Much competition and consolidation in the online learning space. Lynda.com started in creative and is branching to soft business skills and development. Lynda.com bought Compilr for $20M a few days ago—

      Pluralsight previously acquired Trainsignal, and now this outfit for creative skills. Udemy, Coursera, and others are building their offerings. Good to know there is some sanity, as the buyout was $45M, not the crazy FB prices.

    • RE: Disk2vhd and VirtualBox woes

      @technobabble

      Previous Disk2VHD versions had "Fix up HAL for Virtual PC". Only vaguely heard it "cleans up stuff" by Aaron Margosis. Had not not used the tool without it. Weird the current versions don't have the checkbox.

      Curious when the VHD was made, and how this turns out with VBox.

    • RE: The Interview No-Show?

      Ah, no shows. See it with roommates, LUGs, conventions, et al. Depending on the event, "flake rate" can be 40% to 60%. Unfortunate it happens with a job interview, more so a second interview...happens.

      • Are you interviewing the candidate, or is the candidate interviewing you? Related, are you seeking a subordinate, direct report, equal, or something else?

    • RE: Best Linux firewall

      Monowall is bare bones. Seems often comes up as one people used to use. Guessing still valid for minimal hardware.

      One from the TechRadar link noted as the "winner" was... e-Box (http://www.ebox-platform.com/) built off Ubuntu. Haven't tried it, am skeptical, not a first choice, but keeping an open mind.

      Part funny, part truth. Consider being in the candidate's shoes, those are the open ended questions. For what the company needs, a pre-interview test or some form of technical challenge can work. Depending on area, interviews are required to be standard to mitigate job hiring discrimination (written tests are good; conversations, less so).

      Always interesting: If the candidate has post-interview follow-up.

      Cool, curious on people building "engineering journals", "operation handbooks", and/or "cheat sheets". Web pages & sites ain't lasting forever and all that. Figure it could be useful to review if/when going for a job interview.

      Believe Grey is all about OneNote. Got couple people at work who cannot live without EverNote. Been pushing to see how to better integrate these (one or both) to a daily workflow.
