And Texas does not tax Internet purchases like NY does.

      Since when?

      http://www.chron.com/business/article/Amazon-to-collect-sales-tax-on-Texas-purchases-3674874.php

Amazon fought it, but if you are based in Texas, you ship to someone in Texas, you pay Texas sales tax.

We also have one of the higher base rates, NY is 4%, TX is 6%. Depending on locality, that's where extra comes from. I believe there is no location in Texas that doesn't charge the extra 2%, making the effective sales tax rate 8.25% throughout the state. There is also less exemptions for things like food in Texas that other states do have.

Strange, maybe the NS is doing some kind of tricks on their end to put in the WWW for the customer. But I can only see what I see.

So this begs the question of why this works fine on every other network I have tried it on, just the one network where it fails.

Depends on the vendor, maybe your DNS servers are not getting the info properly.

Just slap in a CNAME record on the SBS for www to point to the root domain. It should resolve properly internally then.

Low taxes (no state or city taxes, only federal.)

That's incorrect. Although in Texas we do not have an INCOME tax it doesn't mean we are not taxed out the ass for other things. Our property taxes are pretty high as compared to other places, our sales tax is beefy, and fees are constantly going up and up.

This is a problem when discussing tax policy. Just because we don't see something come out of our paychecks doesn't mean we don't pay it in other ways. The best way to live in Texas is to rent an apartment, don't drive, and buy only from out of state online retailers who don't charge local sales tax.

It's also possible that because SO many of the jobs in the Dallas area are lowering paying jobs, and this is about the average salary and not the number of jobs, that Dallas didn't make the list. The vast majority of IT jobs in Dallas are call-center jobs that don't pay well.

      Just for you. 🙂

HP (EDS) and Dell (PerotSystems) have mostly six figure jobs. Contact centers are normal here, because everyone needs to start somewhere. But there are plenty of high paying IT jobs out there, you just don't have access to them yet. Things like with the finance industry at Comerica, accounting firms like KPMG, big oil in ExxonMobil, and telecommunications with AT&T. And that's JUST the Dallas side of the DFW Metroplex. There are 18 Fortune 500 companies based in DFW, not to mention all the others out there with large operations here or smaller companies based here.

You skew a different way, come back with 10 years experience, you will see a very different landscape.

The biggest factor here is that CloudatCost comes with console access!!

With the generous bandwidth package, that makes this a perfect platform for an SSH proxy.

Was gonna need one soon, but that ship is sailing away on a course to oblivion. Eh, at least I can have a nice little repository, PHP platform, or other things to get me up to speed.

Yeup, you got two disks on the OS, so easy enough.

I always grab all the good stuff, logs are always useful. All you would need to do after you drop it into the new datastore, just import it into the vCenter.

Yeah, it's really that simple. Probably run faster than using some USB drive or some other hokey method.

Other things to consider, but I would assume you didn't do this, is to consolidate all your snapshots and bring it into a single file. But if you were doing this on a DC, woe is you anyways. Make sure to grab all the VHDs, sometimes folks put the things everywhere and anywhere. I keep my stuff clean, one folder, one VMX, one VHD store.

I am not converting technology (now), I simply want to move the VM from VMWare host 1 to VMWare host 2.

Clean method, copy the VHD and VMX off the datastore to your local machine, upload it to the other server, import and be done with it.

Lazy man method. Use Vmware converter. It doesn't care about whatever underlying hypervisor, or at least it didn't the last time I pulled this off. That's assuming it's not transactional data, because deltas can be a bitch.

Should I consider running all phones from my location? Will I need a VPN or dedicated connection between my locations to provide phone services?

Assuming you have enough bandwidth, that's a fine option. Think about 128Kbps per line in use in both directions. Worse case with all of the folks on the horn all day, plan for an ~5Mbps upload, to allow for overhead and people using the line for other things.

Framing up two commodity pipes through a Peplink which terminate an IPSec tunnel to your location would be cheap and effective. Just have to spin up new extensions and such. And it could be very simple assuming these folks don't need a DID or something like that. Otherwise plan to port in your existing numbers and play reassignment of extensions.
