Be careful, people from St. Louis are weird.

For fleet, I'd still go with the Dell Latitudes. Get a Dell Latitude E5570 or E5580 to test it out. You may be able to get your Dell rep to configure them with SSDs... if not, you can have bench do them all quick.

My laptop for work is an E5570, no complaints whatsoever. I have 16GB of RAM and an encrypting SSD. Does anything I ask of it.

Dell Latitude line no longer has CD/DVD drives. We got the E6440s because we still needed CD/DVD drives, they were some of the last latitudes to have them. We get sent discs still from smaller law firms.

The only vendor that I would stay away from in Lenovo. I am not a big fan of HP because of past experiences but then I hear of people have similar experiences with Dell, which I have not had. So I always try to keep an open mind. As long as Dell makes laptops that work with our current docking stations we will not go away from them because of the cost of replacing docking stations. As soon as they don't we will be open to which ever vendor we feel can meet our needs the best, except Lenovo.

I like LG Android phones. They are not bloated with software and is pretty close to vanilla android, far better than Samsung in my opinion. Also, you can get a good smartphone at a low cost from LG. The LG Stylo 3 Plus is really cheap on T-Mobile but has good specs.

We run Dell Latitude E5470s, E6420s, E6440s. They are okay. Nothing to write home about but no major issues either. The support contract that you negotiate is key. Get Dell Pro support and you are golden. Usually, if you negotiate it, you can get it thrown in for free. Of course when we order it is usually over 200 laptops.

    • RE: Travel Advice - Looking for a Reasonable Mountain Cabin

@irj I know there were some rafting places that took people rafting in the area. My honeymoon was in January so they, of course, weren't operating. I didn't think it was that cold, to be honest, and probably would have been fine in a boat on a river or lake, maybe not rafting.

I am not sure as to the fishing in the area but the cabins in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN area are very reasonable, and I am a cheapskate. That is where I went on my honeymoon.

I had looked that up just recently so knew it had a million person lead on Houston. It was only 100K larger when we first moved here. DFW is growing so quickly that it's only like a decade short from being expected to overtake Chicagoland!

Especially not surprising since people are leaving the Chicago area at a rapid rate: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-chicago-census-population-loss-met-20170322-story.html

That piece was specifically crafted to make Chicago look bad. Illinois as a whole is losing people because it is the shittiest state in the Union.

I know. I live in Southern Illinois and as soon as we can (our youngest graduating high school in 5 years) we are moving. My plan is to stay in the job I have now. It is a good job. Have a few Linux certs by then, then moving to a different part of the country to be a Linux Systems Administrator.

@nerdydad I believe he has it on a virtual machine. Ubuntu 16.04 I believe. 1 vCPU and 1GB of Memory 20GB Hard Drive. The addition of Fedora and CentOS is relatively new. When it first started they didn't have them as an option, and actually, Raspbian was the only supported OS at the very beginning.
