That's related. But as we are using VM export for backup, that will have a huge impact (I hope)

This will help directly for basic backups and DR. I'm not sure about VHD exports, which are already faster.

Now there is something to test. As soon I'm back from Xen Dev Summit I'll test it!

edit: just read the commit message to understand why it was slow 😉 https://github.com/xapi-project/xen-api/commit/3e9fc3cb230a220e87f3d5611bc7e7491d2a34bf

Nope but I'm not surprised npm can trigger this from time to time. That's why we are carefully testing our own packages before any release on XOAs.

Beside that Node 6 is not officially supported (only Node LTS, as you can read here: https://xen-orchestra.com/docs/from_the_sources.html) you should remove your node_modules folder and npm i.

This usually happens because your node version has changed.
Run `npm rebuild node-sass` to build the binding for your current node version.

      Did you tried that?

No need to reboot, you are not on Windows 😉 xo-server runs in memory, so to get last version, you need to restart the process. That's all.

    • RE: Xenserver 7: Cant Install Patch

@Danp In general, it takes around 72h to have it in here. Feel free to wait to avoid manual install. There is nothing we could do about this.

Some people did ^^ Hard to not be controversial when you explain your own experience with your own eyes.

    • RE: A small story about creating a startup in France

      Thanks @JaredBusch
In fact, the "real" commercial start of XO was in May 2015 (when we had enough features in XOA Enterprise to sell it). Our first client was in November 2014, but more to support us than really enjoy a product ^^

Also, I'll wirte more "positive" posts after this one, because a lot of people told me it was a bit negative and not enough detailed about my criticism against some participant of the story.

    • A small story about creating a startup in France

Have 7 min to read something?

Here is some bits about Vates, the startup behind Xen Orchestra: https://medium.com/@olivier.lambert/building-a-tech-startup-in-france-cc369c0865db#.wpayxisd7

Sorry about my English in this article, but I wanted to share this story here 🙂

    • RE: Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab

IMHO (just read the first post): when you hire someone, it depends completely for which tasks and/or in which team you want to place it. It's a "human problem" first.

It's like having a sport team: you need to have a balance. The whole should be more than the sum of its parts (that's the key).

So when I spent time with potential candidates, it's entirely a question of feelings, ability to be not serious and have at least one interest in common with people he/she will work with. Then it's about curiosity and capability to search for itself (that's easy to spot during the trial period). That's also the time to see the "enjoy" level during working (mood is a good indicator).

      Technical ability will come last.

So what about home lab? It could be something great if it fits with the rest of personality, but not a game changer per se.

    • RE: BRRABill's Field Report With XenServer

@momurda said in BRRABill's Field Report With XenServer:

Try moving your vdi while vm is running, to another SR, very exciting as you dont know if you will get the dreaded, 'The VDI mirroring cannot be performed" and your vdi just disappears. Luckily it is just detached and back in its original SR. Seems to only happen with windows vms for me

Ouch. Tools installed I suppose. This error mean tapdisk failed to write new blocks to the destination 😕 (XenServer issue)

@BRRABill It's a monolithic/packaged/all in one solution, with a lot of layers. So it makes sense in a way.
