@WrCombs oh I believed you. It might be worth it's own topic.

I've never seen this occur personally. I've had timezone issues in the past. Usually much older systems. But I've not experienced this.

It's crazy. I dont understand it.

Going to change the account policy and see if it's somebody is doing it.

Is it on the domain? Is the DC time correct? Servers and clients on the domain automatically use the DC time.

      Not a domain, It's on a workgroup

What's the time in the BIOS say (if it's a physical install)?

I've seen BIOS time issues before.

If it's a VM, what's the host time show?

      Should have posted this here.

      just so I can learn

Basically you registered the time service, then started it, then re-synchronized the clock with it's source.

No, that is not valid. WTF is even “mainstream”?

      main·stream
      /ˈmānˌstrēm/
      noun

I know how it is defined. But how are you claiming which ones are mainstream. Because there is only subjective evidence to support any of your wild ass bullshit claim.

Mint is Mainstream to many. It is old and nasty and not something I would ever use.

Ubuntu is a steaming pile of shit that only has popularity among "developers" because it was "popular" as a desktop OS.

      Okay ass.

You know what my intention is and was when using the term Mainstream.

So get off your horse and onto the dildo, cause you need to sit and spin for a while.

Completely unwarranted reply from you, because the use and intention of "mainstream" is useless no matter how you try to swing it... HOWEVER, I LMAO so hard at this.

@brandon220 said in File sync and storage issue.:

An example now is User A, User B, and User C all have a OneDrive account and are also signed into [email protected]'s acount. The server is also signed in to [email protected]. User A places data in a folder monitored by OneDrive. It then Syncs to the server, at the same time syncing to User B and User C. They don't need the data from User A. Only the server does. It is a constant sync from different users and the WAN connection stays saturated on OneDrive transfers. The main office is in a rural location and limited bandwidth.

This is exactly what OneDrive is NOT designed for.

Also, there may even be some licensing violations involved with multiple users sharing a single account.

Maybe when running through task scheduler it can't access the credentials in Credential manager until something is executed beforehand??

If you are running your script as SYSTEM, the credentials need to be put into Credential Manager as SYSTEM.

For example, use PSEXEC to run powershell as SYSTEM, then you can add credentials to Credentail Manager and call them from PowerShell using the CredentialManager PowerShell module.

    • RE: Windows 7 Pro 32 bit - Low on Memory... Ideas?

The first problem is that it's 32 bit Windows 7. That means your maximum memory is going to be for gigs switch looking at your screenshot showing about 3 Gigs available for use. 3 gigs of memory to use in 2019 is absolute garbage. If SQL Server is running, you need to put a limit on the amount of memory that can be used. Otherwise it will use up every single kilobytes it possibly can.

SO correct me here - But If I use a database server instance to compile data into folders and then use a mapped drive to send data to and from on mapped drives then wouldn't I be a fileserver using a database instance - not making it a database server?

Then you are in even worse shape because this is so ridiculous a court would see it as "intent to defraud" by making a slow, terrible system that makes no sense except to attempt to hide that you are violating a license.

This would be still having a database server (can you get data from the database? Then you have a server), but coopting the file server protocols to do it turning them into an API and thereby requiring that they be licensed as a server to keep using.

No matter how you skin the cat here, it's still a cat. There is a database server, it is managing data, and it is getting that data to other machines. That another service is put into that process to hide that is bad programming practice, but doesn't change licensing. Licensing is by use and intent, not visible protocol.

again - I might not have all of the information here to be able to tell you one way or another as this conversation goes on, I was simply asking -

Buy a Windows Server license and enough CALs, slap the sticker on the Win7 box, then go home and sleep peacefully.

Anyone else having issues with services not restarting after a server reboot?

On 3 separate servers now, a bunch of services that are indeed important for that server haven't restarted. Looking at logs and nothing jumps out. Just curious if this is happening anywhere else?

This has been going on for quite some time on Windows servers as far as I can tell.

If the services aren't restarting, you aren't rebooting. Try pulling the plug.

I think he means that the services are not starting automatically after a reboot.

Oh, I seen it completely different.

What services are not starting, and have they previously started after a reboot on their own? If it's a third party service, has it been updated recently. If windows, any updates or changes there as well?

This is in response to the posted news article. I haven't heard of Clojure before that. I looked it up and couldn't find a whole lot of useful insight. Could someone explain it better?

Where would you use it vs other languages such as Python, Swift, PHP, Node, Go, etc...

Why would you choose it to start a project? Why wouldn't you?

What is it an alternative to? C++, PowerShell, Python, Node?

Would it work for writing simple GUI apps on Windows?

and generally "FedoraServer" on Fedora Server

This is wrong and you have been told that before.

It is only FedoraServer if you choose a Fedora Server install. If you choose a minimal install it is "public"

As has you have also been told before if you leave the zone off, it uses the default zone.

So if you want to make a generic assumption without adding logic to figure out WTF zone is being used, you simply do not specify the zone.

      firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service mountd
      firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service rpc-bind
      firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service nfs
      firewall-cmd --reload

Yeah, leave out the zone specification. 99.9999999% of everyone reading this guide will be using the default zone and won't need to specify.

    • Comparing PowerShell to Linux User Manipulation

So @scottalanmiller , I had to make some serious edits here on your guide due to your extreme bias against Windows / PowerShell. Hopefully you fix them in the OP:

      List Local Users

      Get-LocalUser #PowerShell - simple.
      Cat /etc/passwd | grep "/bin/bash" #BASH - good luck!

Get Details of Specific Local User

Get-LocalUser salty #PowerShell - Simple, pretty output you can do something with
id sally #BASH - simple command, nasty output!

      Create a New Local User

New-LocalUser salty #PowerShell - super simple, automatically prompts for password
      useradd sally #BASH - simple
      passwd p@ssw0rd #BASH - simple, insecure

      Delete a Local User

Remove-LocalUser salty #PowerShell - simple enough to guess
deluser sally #BASH - simple enough to guess

With Tab Completion in PowerShell, these commands are a breeze.
But if that's still too much to handle...

With many common commands, there are well-known aliases:

      Remove-LocalUser salty
      rlu salty

      New-LocalUser salty
      nlu salty

      Get-LocalUser salty
      glu salty

Super simple, nice and easy to handle output. Handles passwords in a single command nlu salty @WrCombs .

Not sure what you tried @scottalanmiller ...

      Is it vSAN (or equivalent)?

Hyperconverged just means everything is in the same box: storage, compute, network... Vsan has nothing to do with the name.
