@travisdh1 You mean remote as in outside the Dallas area? I'm not 100% certain on that one.

Infrastructure Engineer Openings in Dallas
I'd like to share some openings for jobs in the area with the group. If you think you are qualified,I am happy to vouch for a fellow MangoLassi community member. If you have specific questions about the technical chops needed to do the job, please DM me. I can put you in touch with the right folks to help answer your questions. They definitely need people with VMware experience (as you will see from reading the descriptions).

DFW SpiceCorps 3/26/2020 - Moved to Virtual Format
Date - Thursday, March 26th
Time - 7 PM - 9 PM Central
Location - ZoomWhen a pandemic strikes, what do you do? First, you start by not having an in-person meetup! Sorry about changing the plan with only a week to go, but thanks to everyone for keeping me in line on that front.
Instead of getting together to network and nerd out, we'll do it all virtually from the comfort of our own homes. Let's use this time to check in and see how the pandemic has affected life and work. We'll do our round table introductions as normal, and then we'll go around the horn to share what's happening at work and in the rest of our lives. After that it will be open forum for discussion. And yes, you're still responsible for your own food and beverage if you need that while we're on the bridge.
I did clear this with Spiceworks folks, and anyone who attends will get credit (in the form of points). Make sure I get you down on a list to get points if you attend! I'll open the bridge at 7 PM Central and plan to leave it on until at least 9 PM (or later if we end up talking that long). My only ask is that if you attend, please be willing to turn your camera on.
Here's the official meeting information. Definitely join us if you can make it. We would love to see how you're doing.

RE: ESXi 6.7 Troubleshooting
Also, just for due diligence, I recommend checking the power profile on the server and ensure it is set to max performance. Turn off processor C-states as well to ensure you get all the firepower that host can give you. There's a host power power management policy setting in ESXi for each host that you can set to high performance as well.

RE: ESXi 6.7 Troubleshooting
Here's a KB that matches the virtual machine hardware versions with product versions like you see when you try to create a VM - https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1003746.
Here's a list of capabilities that match to different virtual machine hardware versions - https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.7/com.vmware.vsphere.vm_admin.doc/GUID-789C3913-1053-4850-A0F0-E29C3D32B6DA.html.
So if you created a VM that was compatible with 6.7U2, it could not run on a host running any version of ESXi older than 6.7U2. In your case that won't be a problem since you are just getting started, but it is something to keep in mind if you build an environment with hosts on newer versions of ESXi later and want to move things around. Keep the VM hardware version at the right level for max flexibility / compatibility in the environment.

Pi in the Sky: Using Wavefront to Analyze Pi-Hole Data
What would happen if you wanted to give a conference talk but didn't know if you could gain the expertise in time to actually do it? I would encourage anyone on the fence out there to just go for it, even if you might fail. Here's my story for the encouragement of others.

RE: DFW SpiceCorps 11/14/2019
Please note there was a venue change for this meeting....
There was a miscommunication with the previous venue, so as of 11/7/2019 we have a change in venue to K1 Speed as stated above. We will have a private room with dinner and drinks provided. Anyone who wants to race will be able to do so in multiple groups after 6:30 PM.
If you can arrive at 5:30, that is fantastic. The presentation will begin around 6 PM to give folks enough time to make it to the venue.

A Tribute to Datanauts
It's a sad thing when one of your favorite podcasts releases their last episode. A-Tribute-to-Datanauts is my tribute to the body of work created by Chris Wahl and Ethan Banks in the Datanauts Podcast, and I have highlighted my favorite episodes.
What are your favorite episodes of Datanauts? If you have never listened, you can still consume some of the goodness.

RE: Comparing Server CPU Capabilities?
Do you have any issues with high CPU ready times today? I'd be interested to know the vCPU size of VMs in your environment currently and how you expect that to change in the new world. Some of the "how much more CPU do I need" will be based on current contention (if any), how wide the VMs are today, and how you plan to change that when the number of running VMs gets doubled.

Nerd Journey Episode 53 Now Available - Preparing for Unexpected Career Opportunities, Part 1
What things can you be doing today to help prepare for unexpected career opportunities when they happen? And what is an unexpected career opportunity anyway? Check out this week's episode of Nerd Journey as we dive into part 1 of the discussion.
