Been really angry the last few days. No reason for it either.

I despise being a stupid jumped up poorly evolved monkey some days.

Time to go out and get into a bar fight to because then eh?

Some times you gotta beat the shit out of someone to brighten your day.

Ahhh fond memories from my youth. Can't afford to break my hands again though, they're already creaky and arthritic.

Yeah they're spendy but for an expected 10yr+ service life... meh?

Plus, extra reasons to run 10gbit through the building is a win in my book

Just hoping someone had tried them already and could relate just how far up to 11 they go

What about when the C-level is working from home. They are used to connecting their notebooks to docking stations that have dual monitor setups. Is there a particular model that is better suited for this?

I just did my first foray into docking stations. I picked up HP Elitebook 850 and HPs thunderbolt dock. We've only had one working for one day so far (deployed on Friday - but no real use yet)... That said - on my test bench, it setup super easy and worked without issue.

I've had other docks in the past that were a HUGE PITA, but that was 10+ years ago.

Also, 6 months ago for the boss - I setup a SP6 with MS docking station, other than some user error (because it went home and I didn't plug it all in for them) it's been working OK.

We've had so much grief with the Dell Thunderbolt TB16 unit it's not funny. BSODs galore especially on the cr*ppy Realtek NIC driver built-in to the dock.

Firmware updates have been hit and miss.

All of them have been deployed with Precision 7530 series and later laptops with a fresh Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit.

We was disappointed when we were told that we'd be ordering them instead of a proper dock. Our disappointment was warranted.

Proper docks were one of the best things about the Dell laptops. KACHUNK! Done. Firmly, securely connected.

There will always be those who don't want to sit around and play Xbox all day long. Some people (I'm thinking Scott as an example here) who nearly always have to be doing something. Sure, there will be tons of people doing nothing, but why should they be enslaved to work, if our technology can do it for them and take care of nearly everything else too?

You're trying to apply technology to a social issue. We could have completely automated farms and housing construction and we'd still have the same problems.

Basic income would indeed be an improvement in many ways. I believe/hope it should/will come with a shift in our culture towards a more open and enlightened society. Unfortunately change takes a long time. We are a stubborn species.

And vengeful. A lot of the people who work will want the people who choose not to not to get anything. That's the problem. You have to accept that the workers take care of the non-workers. But because working is purely optional, hopefully that fixes a lot.

How do we move towards this though? Many countries (especially the ones I care about most, Canada/USA) have trashed their education systems. I would begin there and build that back as a foundational block of society.

It's a big project and it makes me want to run for office.

Matt Speller 2016. It's not too late to announce yourself independant

Being born in Canada might make it too late for him, though.

There were so many claims that President Obama wasn't born in this country. I think Matt could get away with it. What would @MattSpeller 's slogan be?

"Vote @MattSpeller 2016.... or he'll knock the cigrits outta ya. Friggin rights, bud!

Ironically one of my first acts of office would be to ban tobacco cultivation. As a consumer of it I would suffer right along with everyone else.

I would hope other types of cultivation would be decriminalized as a trade-off...

Aye with the same rules as booze. Same cultivation rules as tobacco however, no corporate or private production for sale. You want it, grow it, but it will be a cottage industry at most.

Well, I know for sure what I'm doing this winter... My father is building an analog Märklin H0 model train course with tons of rails and trains - and wants some automation with Arduino's and Raspberry's. Now if he wants it, guess who will do it 😉

Anyway, will be funny I think. Only thing where I'm not yet sure is the frontend, thought about something that works like webbased SCADA. Anyone knows something like this, preferable FOSS?

I've always wanted to get something like this going but for a webcam on a robotic arm (with a laser pointer - remote cat entertainment toy). I was going to make it super simple with an RPi webserver and simple buttons to control servos (click left = move servo motor #steps on X axis)

I'd use a Pi for the front-end web server and Arduinos to actually control the things. That way the front end can have time to do things like reboot if it needs it, and you don't loose control over every thing. I know people have done this sort of thing, but I don't know how much code is available to get the Pi and Arduino(s) talking.

Aye, or PIC's, because I'm old school like that (and own way too many that are not being used)

How many ports? I've used two port IOGear ones that worked a treat and were pretty cheap. Green and grey plastic jobby with all the cables integrated.

So SW believes that there is nothing shorter than 40-50 hours of work per week. I realize that Americans tend to be skewed on these things, but this seems really extreme.

Just another example of how they want a specific answer in their polls so design the polls without the possibility of honest answers in many cases.

I work 40... no more... if I do, the next week I take comp time.

      40? 37.5 is where it's at in America's hat
