Contrail is the name for the clouds that are formed from the water vapour etc that comes out of a plane engines... (Condensation Trails)

Chemtrails is a conspiracy that the government are making the planes make clouds or some shit/polluting us all on purpose... (Chemical Trails)

I think there is a mind control element to the conspiracy but I can't keep up with all of the lunacy

isn't EVERY conspiracy ultimately about mind control..? 😉

That's what they WANT you to think

@scottalanmiller said in Matching Drives for RAID:

*Under the Hood: RAID arrays effectively use all of their devices in lock step. Whether you have two drives or eighty in your array, all of them go and look for one block of data together and they all way for the slowest drive in the array to return its block before continuing on. When all drives are identical, they all read and write at the same time and we basically get full performance from every device.

A minor change to be more accurate

Whether you have two drives or eighty in your array, all of them go and look for one block of data together and they all wait for the slowest drive in the array to return its block before continuing on. When all drives are identical makes and models, the differences are much smaller between them and we get closer to full performance from every device.

For what it's worth, my $0.02

Decent air coolers (aftermarket) run about $20-30 and will beat the pants off a stock cooler. Overclocking you can get quite high as well.

If you have the cash (or extreme noise sensitivity) then it's worth going to closed loop liquid. H100i has been my go-to with good results but I can't help but say they're unnecessary and I consider them bling. edit to add they also require a more careful cleaning regimen (gentle + more frequent).

I might make the jump to one of those when/if I get a new case. But eventually, the noise won't even matter for me. My plan is to put my PC on the other side of my office wall, into a closet. Then I don't have to hear it at all.

Most people wear headphones so it's rarely an issue.

I did set one up for a lady who works from home on video editing and had tile floors. Echo chamber!

@tonyshowoff said in What is New Earth:

@MattSpeller Yes, yes, tea cup in orbit, flying spaghetti monster, etc.

Simply saying religion is worthless, doesn't really have much to do with the discussions in this thread. Secondly, I imagine we've all read these things already, many times, and if it was going to have any sort of sudden impact, it would have already.

And being condescending doesn't win you converts, or de-converts, it just makes you look like a jackass. If you want to convince people there is no God or whatever, you do it by getting them to challenge the concepts of their faith, not by saying "lol pastafari dawg."

I am an ass, though there's no donkey lineage I'm aware of.

As for condescending, I do not believe I was, though I stand ready to be corrected happily.

Religion is far from worthless, I can think of quite a few things where it would be highly useful - none of them make it true.

@matteo-nunziati said in the missing VoIP, the ERP and the solution in search of a problem:

@scottalanmiller of course, if a few phones will be moved to VoIP I will consider injectors, but if the entire network has to be redefined, POE+ switches turn to be cheaper and better manageable than ~40 local injectors.

If you need new switches this can be a good excuse to do it. But as much as I hate to admit it the adapters can be far cheaper

Just about had an aneurysm trying to figure out WTF was wrong with a user's email account. Loaded up the management page and I could not find her account for the life of me. Searched and hunted and searched.... Turns out the columns were sorted by ID#, which is generated sequentially when users are added, just like we did 6 months ago in a large batch job. The user I was looking for joined the company last month. You already know the rest of the story....

@matteo-nunziati said in the missing VoIP, the ERP and the solution in search of a problem:

@MattSpeller a number of new switches were in order, but if I have to revert ALL phones to LAN, well this more or less doubles our ports requirements, therefore the required switches.

They do make phones with a built in switch, something to ponder perhaps. We have ancient Mitel phones that have a 100mb switch in them and they have been rock solid much to my surprise.
