This is probably a bad time to point out that I went out drinking with SAM for about 12 hours, left his at 6am and still made work (albeit an hour late) but I did let them know in advance.

I hadn't slept soundly in months. My body finally burned out and shut down. It felt wonderful.

Sometimes your body just goes into f*ck-it-sleep mode. I've had that happen a few times in the past man, hopefully you're back in step! 🙂

I've done that before. Missed the midnight train in Tokyo once, next one was a 5am. That was probably the worst day of my life. Great night though!

    • RE: For My Apple Users

I think at the end of the day it's all preference personally. I lost my phone last night, I used my security app to lock my phone, turn on GPS, and then found out it was just in my driveway haha. That's all I need, to access my data, and protect it if I lose it.

For me? I'm just cheap (and the misses wants a new kitchen island).

EDIT: Not @JaredBusch, just a general monologue. 🙂

    • RE: Anyone have you tried this? Save a Failed Hard Drive in Your Freezer, Redux

@technobabble @ajstringham Yup, sometimes the "clicking" or start/stop is just the motor or head getting improper signals. The boards are very sensitive to ESD damage. Same for memory modules causing BSOD and system halts; a lot of time it's just because someone handled them incorrectly.

Just to chime in if it's something you really need to save; get an IDENTICAL PCB board off of eBay for $15-30 and swap it out. You'd be surprised how many times it's the hard drive PCB error and nothing mechanical. Just check their return policy before you buy, can usually just pay shipping back if it doesn't work out.

I still have my Galaxy S3 and honestly haven't really needed to upgrade. It's like owning a 10yr old car; tons of cheap parts and well documented online how-to's. I'd rather spend $100 on something I really want/need, a few craft beer 6-packs, and put the rest in savings.

Echoing @DenisKelley 's comment: learn something new.

      Happy Birthday.

Not commenting on the fact it's my birthday, so far, today has sucked eggs.

It is your right, as an american, to take the day off after your birthday to go get silly you know. 😛

      happy birthday. 🙂

@Mike-Ralston Awesome job with the new setup, give us a call if you need a deal on some older stuff to tinker with. 🙂

      Lucky! I can't wait to be 25!

From what I can tell it's not much different, but expect to attend a lot more weddings. That's the only thing besides car insurance I can see on the horizon.

    • RE: Dealing with the Universal Job Discriminant: Age

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but even though I'm 24... I really don't want to work with overly-ambitious FOB kids, or older crotchety folks either. I think age may be a discriminant for some companies, but I'd rather not work at those places regardless in all honesty.

I enjoy working around down to earth, communicative, bright individuals regardless of age... that keep work/home separate but can also grab a brew after the work's done. Luckily I hate managing so that'll never be my problem. 😛

Here's the other link, I haven't looked at it much. It sounds really cool in theory for some applications.

    • Thoughts on MIT's FastPass system?

From what I've gathered it's similar to a fast-acting Chef/Puppet setup for routers. I think that's overly paraphrased, but it seems like a really interesting concept.

      Excerpt:
At the annual conference of the ACM Special Interest Group on Data Communication, in August, MIT researchers will present a new network-management system that, in experiments, reduced the average queue length of routers in a Facebook data center by 99.6 percent — virtually doing away with queues. When network traffic was heavy, the average latency — the delay between the request for an item of information and its arrival — shrank nearly as much, from 3.56 microseconds to 0.23 microseconds.

@ajstringham I know! Man i've been busy, did a two week roadtrip to Washington then did the bulk of a move into a new house Monday. My laptop is missing in action and my home workstation is in pieces lol.

Ah, ok. Wow. You've been busy!

      All good though, productive-busy. You?

P.S. I have that burger on my mind, things take me awhile but I never forget. 😛

I've been busy. Started a new job at McAfee of all places. Still in training, so there is that. It's been slow though, so plenty of time so far to post on ML, etc.

That's great though! Best wishes man, they do a lot more than AV right? I heard they have some cool other tools.
