The only thing I can think of that might make sense is the arms export restrictions that get applied to strong cryptography. But that usually only matters for the countries on our shit list.
Yes, there's an embargo list for exporting crypto gear (like some Cisco products). I would assume that's the problem with "open source cryptography" if you will, but on the other side of the token there's the privacy rights... and the argument continues.

@Hubtech Vancouver would require him to get a visa for which he does not qualify.
I thought Canada was pretty friendly to "skilled professionals" in getting visas, am I all wonky on that?
If you're mostly remote then I would recommend somewhere in-between Seattle and Vancouver on the U.S. side. My aunt's family relocated from Austin to Bellingham and it's absolutely gorgeous up there, and only an hour or so to Seattle.
On a side note all of my family has now left Texas, luckily I'm stubborn.
+1 on visibility this is fantastic in that sense!
Let me if there's anything I can do to help.

Prepping for my last day with NTG and making sure all the i's are crossed and t's are dotted.
Who's taking your place?
I don't know. I performed a knowledge transfer to existing resources.
Just being "that guy" no worries.
Currently at ServerMonkey working through some products in Magento. (Happy early 4th by the way!) We'll be having shrimp/crawfish boil this afternoon with some well deserved cold ones. I'll try to post up a few pictures later.
Speaking of, is there a mobile app? Is MangoLassi Tapatalk-friendly?
Glad to hear the conference went well! I think it's a great concept, I'm looking forward to seeing developments in that sector (expecially OpenCompute).
I saw this a little while ago, I'm not sure if it's in the article but they got their money.

Finally home; large clouds coming in from the west but managed to put the top down for a little stress relief!
@ajstringham Fair enough; "If it fits, I sits" just offering a look!

Unfortunately they usually are; I haven't gotten a call on my work line yet though. Have you had a staffing agency call you yet to tell you about the awesome anonymous company they're hiring for? Those are my favorite by far.
@JaredBusch @Nic Oh nothing wrong with the cars themselves, I'm just a sucker for the newer Nissan body styles. My roommate actually got a Prius recently and the tech is definitely on top!
That's an adorable car in the most masculine way; 100x better looking than a Prius.
@scottalanmiller Ohh a little jealous, I haven't had the need for hands-on yet but it looks really interesting.
This is fantastic, good job over there guys! @Nic
Working on some products for ServerMonkey's "Boneyard" page. Tinkering with some SSL certificates and debugging some Wordpress things for WetKoala.
@ajstringham This might be a long-shot but have you compared your ifconfig- a output to your /etc/network/interfaces output on your Ubuntu VM? What about using just NAT? Maybe the actual NIC/hardware doesn't "like" (very technical) IP aliasing since apt traffic on a NAT config is working.
(Just my train of thought, might be completely irrelevant.)
