I keep hearing Brave mentioned by a few people. I have all my passwords and sites synced on all my devices and not looking to change browsers.

You can easily migrate that between browsers, most will offer to import all that info on first launch.

Browser is not the right tool to keep your passwords in. Especially one made by Google. Remember, when product is free, you are the product.

Password managers are the right approach here, Bitwarden would be my choice, although I currently use 1Password. Whenever I get some time, I'm planning to deploy my own Bitwarden server.

@marcinozga I would expect based on Brave's marketing that their browser uses a lot less memory than Chrome for indirect reasons as they're scanning and removing a large number of the heaviest pieces of web pages based on "preventing ads that track you"

I don't think it works that way. They have some kind of built in blocker that also forces https, I still use Adguard on top of that. Each tab/extension/process will use some memory, and I noticed that usage tends to grow over time in Chromium browsers, even if you leave tabs inactive. Ads, tracking scripts and the likes, while heavy, are not usually consuming that many resources. If you look at the source of random modern website, you'll find shitton of js and css frameworks, fonts, icon fonts, perhaps complex svg sprites, pictures, videos, and whatever else you can put on the web, and it all adds up. High memory usage by web browsers is usually caused by lazy web designers.

Pets 'go hungry' after smart feeder goes offline

Owners of a device designed to release food for pets say their animals were left hungry during a week-long system failure.
Petnet allows owners to schedule and control feeding via a smartphone app. When the BBC contacted Petnet on its advertised email address, the email bounced back with a delivery failure notice. One pet owner tweeted: "My cat starved for over a week", while others complained about other hardware issues. "My three Gen2 feeders constantly jam and won't dispense food," wrote another. Some expressed relief that the feeders were now back online.

This is why we have a camera aimed at the cat's dish under the auto feeder.

/s Whatever happened to just leaving a 40lb bag of food open on the floor?

With my dog leaving even unopened bag of food on the floor equals trip to a vet. We did that mistake once with cat food, little fucker ripped the bag open and enjoyed all you can eat buffet with 3 cats. When we got home few hours later all 4 animals had bulging bellies. Dog couldn't move. It wasn't fun cleaning litter box next couple of days and vet bill was almost my monthly rent.

Smart feeders can be a good thing when you have to leave for a few days, but even then I prefer human pet sitter.

      6.7.0 Update 3 (Build 15160138)

"ESXi 6.7 virtual machine" is all it says

You should have an option to upgrade VM compatibility to 15. You should also have an option to select it when creating new machine.

I only get these. Does that mean perhaps the installer for ESXi for Host was out of date? My boss installed it and I can't be sure it was the right one.

@marcinozga Sure thing. Why do you recommend Paravirtual, and VMXNET 3?

Both are paravirtualized, giving you best berformance. LSI SAS and e1000 are generic devices, kind of a fallback, like vga mode for video card when no drivers are installed.

LSI Logic SAS - VM Network, E1000e, Auto Mac which has been reserverd via DHCP

You should have VMware paravirtual and VMXNET 3

I changed this to what you recommended but no change.

SCSI controller change is not that simple, it will most likely cause BSOD if not done properly. But if you did that successfully and still have the issues, it's possible that guest installation is damaged. I would setup another VM, but this time select proper hardware and various options, such as said hardware virtualization before actually installing guest OS.

What's the VM version of guest? Is hardware virtualization enabled in guest CPU? What's SCSI controller and network type? You should have VMware paravirtual and VMXNET 3. And obvious, are VMware tools installed in guest? Ideally I'd like to see screenshot of assigned hardware configuration of that guest.

Intune is $6/user/month, so at 200 users you're looking at $14,400 annually. Windows Server 2019 Standard license is $800 and $8000 for user CALs, or $0 is you go with Samba.

and you didn't include the AAD license. yeah that shit is hella expensive!!! and a major reason why on prem AD continues to stick around.

It's way less than having an extra IT Admin / engineer hanging around to set up and manage all the SAMBA, Ansible, on-prem, etc., crap involved in taking care of every single point.

This is completely bullshit argument. Setting up Samba as DC takes 5-10 mins, installing Ansible literally takes seconds, setting up windows machines for Ansible management is a single powershell script. Neither is time consuming or complex, it's even easier than setting up native Windows DC. I bet just signing up for Intune or AAD is more complex and much bigger pain. And if your IT staff can't handle basic stuff, it's time to replace them with competent ones, or outsource it.

It's not a simple "oh just install ansible and samba". That will take a ton of work to build the entire environment unless you use something like others mentioned like Zentyal if you really want to keep the on-prem mindset going.

Again, nonsense. It does take some work to create Ansible playbooks or roles, but so it does setting up things in AAD or Intune.

You could use ansible or something, but I'm telling you that'd be a huge PITA for a full Windows environment. I wouldn't got the on-prem or SAMBA route.

Nonsense. I work with all Windows environments and Ansible is pure pleasure to use. Native Windows tools are real pain, including Powershell. Ever tried equivalent of journalctl -f in Powershell?
