Well I had my interview with this MSP on Thursday and it went awesome! They have a phone engineer position and a network engineer position so I got to talk to both their phone team manager and their network team manager. As we are talking, one of them brings up my project management experience and we start talking about that so they bring up a third position that hasn't been officially created yet because they haven't found anyone that would be a good fit by having IT and PM experience. I couldn't believe that they didn't have a dedicated PM on staff. Well I jumped all over that! I love the stress and satisfaction of managing multiple projects and putting together & executing the plans. Totally got me excited. I guess we will see what happens over the next week to see if they make an offer.

RE: Recommended IT Dashboard?
PRTG is "mainstream" because it's easy to set up and they have had a big marketing push lately. But I don't feel it's as customizeable as Nagios

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Smiling so big. Great conversations with a great friend while working through difficult problems. I love being able to help people by just being there to listen and making them smile. 2016 will be the year of changes!

RE: Approached by a MSP
Yup... I personally have a clear conscience to look for a new job and fortunately I have time to find one that I really want and will enjoy since the merger is 5 months away. I am also able to look in any city that I want to look which is pretty cool.

@lhatsynot Ohhhhhh I see, I've never heard of it until my boss mentioned it. Now Nagios sure, who hasn't heard of Nagios?
Tons of people haven't heard of Nagios but you'd be surprised how many of these monitoring solutions use Nagios as their underlying system. Also I bet your boss hasn't heard of Nagios unless he really did work his way up from a hands on sysadmin.

RE: IT Career the Strategy Game
Technically by constantly networking with other IT pros and meeting as many people as I can I am always "job hunting". I was able to take the last IT event I attended to find my current job all while my soon to be new boss was at that same event and turn it into my new job where I just finished my 2nd day. It felt like cheating but it's my life, my money, and my sanity that makes me do it because you never know where your next job will come from. If things get stagnant then a lateral move is ok even if it may be a slight drop in pay just to see whats down the other fork in the road. If there are no other jobs in your market then you can't afford NOT to move into a new market. You also need to keep moving out of your comfort zone and never give up if you want to keep moving up the pay scale and the career ladder. You may be happy and that's great because I will never be. My new goal is to kick ass and keep hungry.
I like your game idea Scott. Think someone can program it up and add it to Steam?

I heard it has to be two versions behind and specific point release or it won't work.
And needs IE6.
See... you cant just switch over to Chrome. IE still has its uses.

RE: Taxes are to high!
I have about 30% taken in taxes from my paycheck. It sucks that you work hard to earn more and the govt just takes more. I'm not against paying my fare share and helping those in need but it shouldn't be a never ending take if the person is able bodied but just too drunk, stoned, or lazy to get off their bum and put forth a little freaking effort. I wasn't happy with my income or job outlook so I got motivated and went to school to learn a new skill.

RE: Taxes are to high!
Like I said... I dont mind paying my part. Yes there is TONS of government waste and I get where certain programs are very important to maintain but if a person isnt willing to put forth some effort then I dont want to help them. I have a brother who milks the system and we fight about it all the time but he gets away with it and I just pay more in taxes. Sometimes I wonder why I try so hard because its easier and more profitable to just suck off the teat like so many others.
Sorry for that.
