I used to stream live company meetings via something like a Logitech C920 HD camera hooked up to a MacBook Pro and using YouTube Live. You can create a private stream with this and it's automatically recorded plus live collaboration features if people are in multiple locations.

RE: PayPal alternatives
@BBigford I'm not sure what you're really looking at an alternative to here. Is it a replacement for accepting payments on a website (business use), international transfers, or just paying friends/family.
PayPal to send family money seems silly - it has a fee. I would just transfer it to their bank account from mine using BACS or send them an sms Paym if <£250, it doesn't cost a thing.

RE: Helping a company comply with HIPAA
@Dashrender well chromebooks do have local storage but they are encrypted by default and with Apps for Work there's the ability to disable some of the Drive sync abilities to limit storage on local devices.
Some staff are currently using Dell Inspiron laptops from ~5 yrs ago so it's definitely time for an update.

RE: Helping a company comply with HIPAA
@Dashrender they are all field workers so laptops are never even in an office - they don't even have one. from what I've seen so far that data is on laptops so either a change in procedure or encryption may be useful if left as is.

@DustinB3403 Thanks, I'll take a closer look

RE: Helping a company comply with HIPAA
@DustinB3403 sure, that was the obvious first site but I'm looking for a more practical site that more specifically applies directly to IT as well as real user experience in the implementation of it.

Helping a company comply with HIPAA
So I've been speaking to a friend that works for an early learning (0-3) company and they have their clients signing documents relating to HIPAA but I'm finding a lot of gaps in their IT systems which don't come close to complying with HIPAA. They are using a cloud document system, OpenDrive, that has no reference to being HIPAA compliant for instance, laptops that have no encryption or security on them, etc.
I've not been involved with any company before that needs to be HIPAA compliant so wondering what resources there are I can look at or advice from those here to help move them to being more compliant.
They are a small company (8-10 staff, all 1099 employed in IL) with nearly 0 extra funds or resources so any solution needs to keep this in mind. Most of their staff are either on Gmail or familiar with it so looking at the GApps platform I see there's a HIPAA BAA solution with them and for $5/user/month the cost isn't going to be much more than OpenDrive but it provides them much more than just document storage.

RE: Google Apps account compromised and then deleted

How did the account get compromised is the real question.
At the moment we think it's down to an expired primary domain registration and Google allowing a password reset via a DNS validation: https://support.google.com/a/answer/33561?hl=en
The primary domain became unused and left to expire as the secondary was the main email used by the company.
Looks like the 'guy' has done this with a lot of domains all at once: http://domainbigdata.com/email/[email protected]

RE: Google Apps account compromised and then deleted
@travisdh1 so the initial setup does require you to setup via voice or sms confirmation. you don't have to have a mobile device to do this. you can have it call a landline number. once you initially configure it you then have the option to transition to the authenticator app as primary and use sms/voice as backup.

trying to restore a deleted GApps domain from 30,000 feet and other adminy things

RE: Google Apps account compromised and then deleted
If he had 2fa on this it would have never happened. I've already said that it's the first thing he needs to do on all his accounts. @travisdh1 not sure what is difficult. it's a straight forward thing and has always just worked for not only me but 100s of employees where i've rolled this out in previous roles.

RE: Google Apps account compromised and then deleted
I suppose the good thing is that it was only a couple (if that) users on the domain and not a huge company.
I'm a little surprised though that Google didn't immediately block the suspicious login attempt. I've had non-super admin accounts get the following when we tried to connect SAP via smtp and I would have hoped for a bit higher security checks on a super admin account.

Google Apps account compromised and then deleted
So I've been pulled into help out a friend that just has his google credentials stolen and they immediately (3-5min after the suspicious login email was received) went ahead and deleted their google apps for work account. I'm not too sure why they would gain access and then just delete the account.

RE: Password Complexity, Good or bad?

12+ Characters, complexity not needed. 180+ day password cycle.
2FA is always nice, but I would never expect to get it going in a standard office environment.
why would you never expect to get it going in an office?
It's been a straightforward implementation process in all of my last 3 companies. -

We need some latency numbers from around the world. Anyone want to collect some for us?
Here is the first IP address. A long running ping (hundreds or thousands of pings) would be good, we need the final stats from that:
- 104.236.119.59
- 108.61.151.173
- 172.99.75.133
We have a good idea on bandwidth, IO, CPU and memory. Network latency is pretty huge.
1,200,000 packets later...

RE: SnipeIT Users
Interested to see feedback, we were trying to use the CMDB feature of our ticketing system FreshService but found some of the reporting features lacking. One of our other office went and built their own tool that had the basic functionality they wanted but I'm hoping that we find a more widely used solution. There was GLPI being used prior to all this but that is very dated.

RE: Image hosting with simple tagging options
I'm using Google Photos. Text within the photos are automatically searchable as well as what's in them without doing anything. Pictures of a dog can be found by searching dog. The Auto-Awesome feature I also use often with the stories, movies and animations it automatically created. If you want, descriptions can be added and then become searchable. Automatic tagging for people within the photos I do via Picasa.

RE: Home Network Firewall Options
@wirestyle22 I've managed to kit out my home network entirly with Meraki gear I've acquired through webinars and cheap eBay sales. Currently using an MX60 which I picked up for £40 that included a little less than 1yr of the Advanced Security license on it.
