RE: Password Managers
@Pete-S I have no idea why they moved. I guess the higher ups want to migrate? Cost I think is about the same. We are not self hosted only 15 users so far

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
I HATE them in the morning
and in the afternoon
I HATE them in the evening...
Well, you get the idea.
On the plus side, our CxO's finally saw the light and decided to NOT replace this printer. So now they're going to make everyone walk to one side of the building or the other to get their printouts. -
RE: Password Managers
@dafyre Bitwarden has been great here we migrated the whole company over to using it and forced password changes on the coupel external sites we control. So far no issues.

RE: Grandstream GWN7660/GWN7664
@Dashrender We resell the product and as others here have stated they are OK. I'd probably stick with Ubiquiti.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
the Optiplex 9010's are "loaded" have dual NIC's and 16GB ram so lab vmware/Kvm/Hyperv hosts. Switch does work it may route not sure yet, and has 8 PoE PLUS ports and the rest are regular PoE; but no console port all config through web browser or SSH cli. The tower server's junk. Someone also left some old Juniper AP's that went right in the trash.
Not super happy but the switch is good and no pink slip. -
RE: Grandstream GWN7660/GWN7664
@Dashrender I've only done simple config so far of a couple demo units using the built in controller. Grandstream's interface; while intuitive; is very slow. Firmware updates are known to have issues with Grandstream devices in general; no exceptions with the AP's. Many times you have to do leap frog updates if you don't keep up to date (not to mention Grandstream changes their auto update website occasionally without telling anyone!).
Why so many SSID's? I usually try to keep at as few SSID's as possible to avoid airtime congestion. -
RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@JaredBusch post just reminded me I have to get my PiAware ADS-B tracker running this weekend, early Fathers Day gift from the kids.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
@WrCombs Bad power; or they have transient power spikes on the network cables/poe switch or the PC. See if you can check your power and grounding withthe building/maintenance person, if they have one. We had a rash of nic's on dock stations failing (of all things) in one of our offices; we thought it was the docks but then we replaced the piece of dog poop UPS the switches were on and haven't had a problem since.

RE: Data Erasure Software?
@Pete-S Agreed. We found a local archive place that recycles or destroys all our old stuff, they provide certificates of destruction and will shred hard drives on site (which is freeky awsome by the way).

RE: Unifi cloud controller going the way of home office?
@CCWTech The Omada products "mirror" Ubiquiti; so much so that I wonder if they stole Ubiquiti's interface? They use a model of hardware controller; self hosted software controller, or their cloud controller; that model requiring a license per device per year. I have some demo hardware at my office we're just getting set up to play with I'll let you know the results later this week. You can have super administrators with access to all sites and an admin per site.

RE: Unifi cloud controller going the way of home office?
As @JaredBusch said the Omada line is a good replacement for the Ubiquiti's Uni-Fi line. The controller interface is almost identical. Product is good and can be managed from a controller that is a physical box; or a software controller that runs on Windows or Linux or they have a cloud offering they run. Set up is similar to the adoption process of Ubiquiti. The router solution they have is definintely NOT a replacement for the Edgerouer; more consumer looking that pro looking. I'll continue to play with it as our company's looking to resell this line shortly.
I did see the Ubiquiti has EdgeRouter 12's in stock but pricing is higher than the 4's -
