    • RE: Taking suggestions about x86 Access replacement

@mr-jones Can you tell us why they need 32 bit? We manage a ton of Access databases that were created and developed under 32 bit MS Access in the year 2003. With very little effort, these are all running just ducky under 64bit Access 2019.

I'm just curious if you may be having a problem that is simple to resolve, but since everyone has always said it has to be 32, the solution hasn't been explored....

I think that the thing with Sonos is that they have a lot of models with different power outputs and patterns.

This is what makes the project so difficult. So many similar products with similar purpose.

I don't know anyone that does Sonos design, but I think most cities have AV dealers that do that stuff a lot. Sonos doesn't go after the HiFi market, but more of the "room filling" market. Like a high quality Bose competitor. Same market, but actually decent stuff.

If you are an audiophile, neither is going to make you happy. But if you are looking for room jamming sound to dance to or have on while cooking and you want all the latest features, I think Sonos really aims for that.

I was thinking about Sonos for the hotel because you can control the zones so much.

I am an audiophile. I have a THX certified theater that is not included in the size or room count. When I need over the top, that's where I go. 🙂

The purpose of this project is to have room filling sound at low volume for background music, as well as pumped up volume for party atmosphere.

I'd like to change my entire home to SONOS. Is there a configurator or straight forward designer anywhere?

We don't have elaborate needs, just need to know the basic pieces to bring nice sound and happiness to each room.

      Thanks.

      Basic questions to ask yourself:
      How big is the house?
      How many rooms?
How is the networking (wired/wireless) throughout the house?

      4k sqft
      12 rooms
2k sqft open patio and deck
Ethernet to all locations and wifi throughout.

OD has settings that you can enable to only sync things on demand. They may even be default anymore, been a year+ since I dealt with it.

I believe it is now. It wasn't in my local folder until I manually Sync'd it. Pretty cool feature. Nothing syncs until you tell it to.

@dashrender said in How to best utilize Microsoft 365 File Sharing?:

Remote access to the files in O365 are easy to access.

How do you plan to provide access to the file server when they are remote?
VPN would be the typical way, another way would be to install a NextCloud server and move the files there, then directly access them from remote, similar to accessing O365.

as for syncing to your local server - you could install OD on the server and have it sync a folder to the server.

The files that will not be at MS365 are not needed when remote, this is how/why it was decided to split the files.

If OD is installed on the server and the OD folder is shared to the lan, will on-site changes be reliably synced to MS365 and will versioning and simultaneous use be handled properly? That's my biggest worry, it's not that it is a requirement, but I am thinking about the "What If" scenarios.

you said sync back for backup purposes... I would not try to use those files in a file server sense... I'd just sync them and backup them.. nothing more.

So let each user use the OD Client to access? Do not even tell them there is a local copy on the file server in the telco room?

I see that might be way better with respect to not losing synchronicity across devices. Why do a double share when a direct share will work!

@stuartjordan I just setup a new Folder using Sharepoint.

This looks like it will give me the closest "old school server" feel of the options.

Thanks for mentioning that. I'll keep playing with it, but right now, it looks very promising.

@stuartjordan Which ever is best. I'll take any advice you have.

I used Teams to build a group today. Then when I started OD, the group's new general folder was there. I don't know if it was ultimately OD or Sharepoint, I understand they can booth be managed by the Teams admin portal, which makes it hard for a new person to figure out where it landed!

    • How to best utilize Microsoft 365 File Sharing?

We want to migrate some of our user files to Microsoft 365 and leave some of them on the in-house file server.

What might be the best way to configure this so home users can have an experience similar to their current mapped drive experience while at home, and the same experience while at work?

And for backup reasons, we think we want all the Microsoft 365 files synced to our main server.

Has anyone done this and have advice? Is there a guide anywhere?

I'll provide more use case answers if you ask me the questions.

      Thanks.

I have no experience with them but I keep seeing hikvision everywhere.

I see those everywhere as well. I think because they're cheap. I was very annoyed by the only system I ever worked with (required IE, 8 years ago now, but still, yuck.)

Hikvision was very popular because of price until it was discovered they had a backdoor to monitor every camera that had a route to the internet.

Could use gSyncit to move tasks between disparate systems. All systems listed on the left can share tasks except DropBox and SimpleNote. We use it for a few different collaboration requirements, we like it. If a specific app isn't listed, CardDav and CalDav usually work.
