Or KeePass, the open source equivalent.

I've been using LastPass for so many years now that I can't recall how much money I've given them. Thinking harder, I would say 4 years or more ago as that is when I got my first smart phone and I wanted the premium feature to use it there. I used it for 2 years or more free prior to that.

I used Carbonite for small business and recently had a dual disaster. I woke to my PC's SSD drive was borked a week ago Saturday. I turned off my backup rig (PC as a backup drive) and put the drive in a USB dock and lost the partition! Luckily I had backed up the backup rig to Carbonite small business. The disappointing part is that on day 8 I am only at 82% of the 250GB drive using a 16MBs Comcast business connection.

I too am looking for something faster for retrieving an online backup.

That's one of the good things about CrashPlan PROe. You can just restore the data locally to the server or to another machine.

So with CrashPlan PROe you have a RAID backup appliance plus online backup?

The backup database sits on a Windows server, not an appliance. Your clients back up directly to the server. If you set it up for external access for remote users, your server then becomes the online backup. Hybrid backup is also an option if you want to have a "cloud" secondary backup location.

Combine this with Pertino and you'd have a cool setup.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

    • RE: What would it take to get your boss to move to office 365?

The cost of E3 is $20 and mid size business is $15. So to pay thousands more a year is a bit of an over reaction. You are paying for office rights, not exchange.

If you only want exchange it is only $8 a month per user for E1.compare the same things. Don't lash out left right and center with misinformation. One would think you are a media person not IT.

I never bothered to move a service that I have had there for basically forever. I am not tied to it, just had no reason to take the time to move it. Now I have to.

What kinds of files are they? If you're using Office 365 why not store everything in Sharepoint? Of course that doesn't work very well for large files, but normal office docs it's probably great.

Because it is a mix of personal and private data. Most of the work data is going to be migrated to Sharepoint simply because I am going to do it for my own ease of use and will keep telling my boss to find my changes there until he starts using it.

I liked the looks of BackBlaze and will give it a try now thanks to everyone's reviews.

Mid size also cannot mix plans.

Yep, so if you get a copier that needs to scan to email, you'll be paying full price instead of putting them on the $4 per month EOP1.

You can do un authenticated SMTP to office 365 on the small business plans, you just have to set up a connector and restrict it to an IP or IP block. I have ours restricted to a /29

    • Off Site backup solutions for the SOHO user. What do you all use?

The company I work for is 4 employees that all work from home. Our computers are dual purpose for home and work use. As such they contain a lot of files not found in typical offices.

All the users have local backups running to external USB except mine. I have an old LinkStation Quad in with 4x 2TB drives in RAID10.

We need an offsite solution for out backups. I detest the services such as Mozy and Carbonite because it is a pain in the ass to force them to backup 100% of the items in the specified folders.

My searching this morning resulted in this list: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/maintenance/tp/online_backup_services.htm

I reviewed a lot of these but would appreciate feedback from others on things used.

Well before going through hoops, what version of pfSense are you using? 2.1 was just released and should contain drivers for the newer chipsets.

I never had to install the drivers prior to the pfSense install itself. My boxes had extra NICs added and those were detected. I simply had to wget the drivers for the built in NIC after the fact before I could fully setup those systems.

The accounting department at most of my clients have this installed due to the bank requiring it. I have only had it pop something once, when a user ran a virus form email. Their Vipre also caught it.it is light weight and should not affect anything.

I see things like this as niche devices for small market segments. Salesmen could use it to ensure they have a good presentation at all times, etc. but the general public would never really use it. It would just kill the battery.
