- You used Recovery disk to blank/clear Windows User password, cause management fired a person and he didnt provide the password for his account, okay you solved the day. But now management looks at you like hacker than can hack the NSA or FBI, and no longer trust you. And guess whom they want to fire next.
This seems really weird. I'm assuming no centralized authentication then? Why not just wipe the machine? use an image to rebuild it... all badness from last user is gone.
How long does it take you to re image ? Cause it takes me 1 min to blank user windows pass with Linux ntpasswd
And yes this was pre saltstack days
It takes me about 8 mins to reimage. But even so, I would still do it anyway. Get rid of the old user's crap, change the computer name to something I know belongs to this user, etc.
I see, well in this scenario and most scenario where I work starting fresh is not easy, cause we have very high turn over rate from expats so they do the handover on their laptop so we can't format . And the handover person can come in next day or next months
Seriously - it's 8 mins from an image. Assuming no centralization, perhaps you don't care about PC name, you boot from USB, use Clonezilla to pull the image down, boot - create user and done. The user can enjoy a cup of coffee for 15 mins max while you do that, assuming you were handed the laptop right when the new person just walked in.
Are you dense? we cant format, the Handover data is still in the laptop. It is needed for the next person fills the position and takes over.
I understand that you know CloneZilla and you are good at it, noted. But dont turn every comment to a guide cause not every scenario is an scenario identical to where you work at.
Of course that's true - but you have important data on a machine? no backups? or just don't want to deal with restoring the data?
He's not IT, don't worry about it.

yum install salt-master I tried DNF and it failed.
User error, because yum
redirects to dnf anyway.

Maybe it was a few weeks. It was in the news. Czechia had always been used as a short form name, but it was switched to be the official English language name of the country just recently. It was while I was in Romania that they renamed it, I am pretty sure. For some reason it didn't make much news.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/15/europe/czech-republic-name-czechia/index.html
And that article clearly states that they are only seeking to change their short name / familiar name to Czechia in the U.N databases. There is nothing in there about a name change for their formal name. It is still the Czech Republic.

Made news writing... the country was not the Czech Republic in the 1980s and isn't now. Using only an interim name that was neither the country's name at the time or now is the only option that doesn't make sense.
Did I miss a memo? It has been the Czech Republic since the early 1990's with the downfall of the communist party.

Did you actually ever try to make and restore a backup from the hypervisor with Veeam?
A hypervisor level snapshot is not the same thing as guest backup. it is different tools at a different layer.
It may or may not work with your application, but it is a totally different mechanism.
While state solutions may be nice, they are by no means the bbest solution @scottalanmiller always makes them out to be. It add complexity and requires a total change of the design of your IT infrastructure.
Shit is not, ever, as black and white and Scott tries to make it.

Which a small 8 port would work here, but is it worth putting in a switch and needing power there over just running fiber?
Best Answer.
Because any thing else requires power.
Regardless of what he is connecting? Because we have no idea what he is actually cabling for

Most NGFW are just updated UTM solutions from the same vendors.
I hate the entire concept of the NGFW as no one has a clue what they are buying, using, researching.
@dbeato You generalized "Linux" which is wrong. In a reply, yes, but without specific context in your post.
I specifically responded to the Exchange 2010 bit.
Please read everything before getting pissy.

Why are you trying to install Java 10 when even java.com still installs Java 8?
I'm told to upgrade Java to the latest version. If I shouldn't, I will need some legitimate reasons to push back. I really haven't followed all of the decisions regarding v9 and v10, so maybe this shouldn't be done at all? Do most of you guys deploy java, and if so, what is your official stances on 9 and 10?
Java.com shows the latest as 8 update 171
SO there ya go.
There are multiple guides here to do this. And again jumping more than a single version is not the proper way to handle it. Even if it works.
