I have the option to set up openVPN to all the offices and cover 95% of the staff. I have a few that are not in office workers,.. and while several are mobile, they generally work from one of the offices we have... so they would be covered.

Pertino for a NPO
Seeing a recent thread here about Pertino - I wonder how it is a better fit for my Non Profit office.
While there is still much to do to bring us up to date (domain, Office 365 deployment, Phone, etc), what is everyone's opinion on which to use.Pertino

@g.jacobse no phone is useful without a PBX. How are you functioning without a PBX today? Are you paying for a 1960s Key System from the phone company?
Uhm yea - about that,...We have a onsite Nortel NorStar system at the main office,.. but I'm pretty sure it is otherwise POTS.... as it 90% of all of our remote sites. It was this way when I started last year - but I fully plan to move us into the modern world...

RE: New Uniquiti SIP Phones
I'm curious about it - but i don't have a PBX to plug it into... I have users in 9 counties and we are expanding one of our current offices... so this could be a really nice option to go with. Just wonder how it would fit..

RE: Stupid User Tricks: Deleted Outlook profile
Dispatch seems only to 'mirror' my main account...

RE: Stupid User Tricks: Deleted Outlook profile
Getting it set back up, I see that the 'extra folder' is STILL there.. dang it. Guess it's in my outlook.office365.com settings..
So much for all the aggravation I caused myself.

RE: Stupid User Tricks: Deleted Outlook profile
Work around-
I set my account back to the main .onmicrosoft.com account, and it seemed to pull the needed server data. Since we haven't cut over this is still the defaultGuess it wasn't bright enough to figure it out.

Suggestions on the proper connection (feels like a N00B)
Ditch O365 and switch to on-premise Exchange?
@Carnival-Boy - I debated the On-Premise setup for a bit,.. but as a No Profit Organization, we get the bulk of our email services for free. I only pay for 30 accounts as opposed to the 150 I have. And in the future, we will be taking over another one of our domains, so that will total us at 300 accounts.
Not to mentions, we cover 9 counties, over 150 different locations with those 300 people. I'm only one person, and can only accomplish so much. For the time, cost, configuration, and aggravation - O365 seemed the best route to go.

Yes yes,... more caffeine...
I did find this: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office365-suite-help/set-up-my-current-office-desktop-programs-to-work-with-office-365-HA102817827.aspx
So Poking that now.

Stupid User Tricks: Deleted Outlook profile
So,..User decides that his Outlook is a little cluttered, goes into mail and deletes his profile thinking he'll just re-connect his mail accounts. He has two iMAP accounts and our new O365 account configured.. Doesn't take much to reconnect the two iMAP accounts,.. but the O365,.. well that is a slightly different story..
Auto Account linking isn't finding the profile, and the docs say, In O365 OWA, click the "?" then ABOUT - only there is no ABOUT... to find the mail server,..
Uhm... Ok,..I'll admit it,..Very much a PEBKAC error..(Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair)... And it's my chair.. (rolls eyes)
Suggestions on the proper connection (feels like a N00B)

RE: MFP: Scan to email address
Well it worked finally - well sort of.
I created another user in O365 called Scanner Device (scandev@~~) assigned global admin rights and updated the copier. All the the other network settings were fine (TLS, port etc). And the scan sent it to email.
Of course it kept it internal.. which over all I suppose is perfect,.. but we haven't fully cut over from our POP email yet.
Two things of interest though:
- Global Rights seem to be a breach point..
- The scan came in a ZIP file
But otherwise - it worked just fine.

We just had our new Konica Minolta's delivered - our install tech brought and left a document with me about setting it up. Sadly I'm not in any better position than I was before.
Those instructions are outdated. It's just outlook.office365.com for the SMTP server. It's still 587 for the port and STARTTLS for the encryption though. That much is true. It's really simple stuff. Not sure where the issue is.
On a separate note, that site uses the same Wordpress theme mine does! Different coloring and images, yes, but look at it next to mine.
http://www.thanksaj.comLol
I agree that it is a bit outdated as you pointed out that MS has changed the server naming. However in the comments someone stated this and pointed to SMTP.office365.com. I am unsure of the different, but then why did the change the naming of the office TOOLBAR to RIBBON?
I'll plug that in and see what it does.

RE: Central point AV and FDE
Is it possible to consolidate TOO much? Is it the correct approach to put all of the management tools into one single application? Or is it better to have two separate applications for the AV and FDE tasks?
-
Central point AV and FDE
So - I found out that we need to be FIPS 140 compliant..
While I have a Sophos introduction on Wednesday - I'm looking for other options for a single point of management for both AV and FDE (full Disk Encryption).
As a single IT support person for almost 300 people across 11 counties It's pretty important to have a central managed solution.
I've used PANDA previously, but they do not offer the FDE I nee now.
Thoughts - Suggestions - recommendations?

Here is the way i have my 7 mpf's setup. Each machine has its own From address and it is by department. So mine are [email protected], [email protected] and so on. All Mfp's point to our relay server and everything works without an issue. We are on Office365 for email only at this time.
David - What did you use as your relay server?
I guess I should also ask / confirm: In O365 you have a distribution group for that resource (purchase, engineering, hr, etc),...

MFP: Scan to email address
Just a curious thought - we have several MFP devices that can be set with scan to email. We are also in the move to O365, which I know I may have to set up a relay for.
But - the real question is should I have one 'email address' to scan from or 'department' scan from emails..

RE: What Microsoft OS is best for business?
I would wager to say that a mix is going to have to be way to go. Windows XP is expired - was a great system decently stable... Windows 7 Pro is going well for us but,.. there are some security issues. I've had people have issues with Windows 8 and 8.1. But partly due to a Touch screen on a Laptop... And that the GUI is much different the previous ones, so there is that learning curve.
My Win7Pro security issue is encryption. It's not native to this version.. so it's something else to invest in, and manage.
There are PROs to going Linux and Mac, especially with open source software. just depends on how much of a MS investment you need.

RE: Why Anecdotes Fail
I felt similarly regarding MS SBS 2003 - It was a 'huge risk' to have a single server that served so much - I made it worse on myself by (shooting my foot) at only 4GB of memory. But it ran,..daily,.. only one 'failure' which was a virus and I may have been able to resolve it without wiping the system. But I choose to as a precaution.
But that SBS box ran for nearly 6 straight years with very little day to day futzing. We did have downtime,.. but there isn't anything that I could do about the Windstream hub down the road being under 5 feet of water. We were running,.. just no internet.
Still like the SBS model - though in my new office it doesn't work since we have nearly 300 people.
