@Dashrender
Yup
Sad to say.. I didn't set it up,.. I just have to make it work (for now). It will be addressed.. It has to be. This isn't a way to operate a network.

@scottalanmiller, I suppose what I need right NOW is just a band-aide.. I have so many more pressing and more serious issues it's unreal...

RE: Remote Outlook: Configurationposted in IT Discussion
AD joins are pretty trivial if your computer is still in the same network as the domain. Which it is not. The computer is 20 miles away from the AD on a non VPN network.
This is still part of the networking / AD / Domain nightmare. We are looking to finish the primary (papered) OU deployment of O365, but this domain isn't at that point...

Right now @scottalanmiller, its to large of a issue to resolve. That is my desired goal.. but right now - I can only do so much.

Remote Outlook: Configurationposted in IT Discussion
Yes, I Googled. What I found isn't helping.
Have an Exchange server with remote users not on the domain. Trying to re-establish Outlook connectivity. I have the server address, etc, but for what ever reason it's not wanting to validate since it's not 'within the ' domain.
I know it can be done,.. was done. But having some minor issues with the translation.
(what I used:)
https://uknowit.uwgb.edu/page.php?id=23237Error: Action can not be completed. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable....

I agree with @FiyaFly in saying I cannot deal without LastPass nowadays. I got my mother onto it and she loves it. It's true that your LastPass account is only as safe as your master password, so if you live at 123 Main Street and your dog's name is Wolfy, using Wolfy123 as your password is pretty weak. Make it something unrelated to common password triggers, like pet names, birthdays, spouse and children names, etc. Mine is 23 characters, fully complex, and not something related to anything in my life directly. It's easy to remember but pretty much impossible to guess. That's the key.
Last time I did that I spent six hours trying to figure out what it was only to give up and have the password reset. I generally do a number/letter replacement, cap, symbol. Sadly and not related to a 'master password' some sites I have will only allow 8 characters, so to use a 16, 24, 31 character password is not possible.
Years ago I came across someone in Cincinnati that used the maximum character length - 264 I would have been impressed if he didn't have to start over twice to type it in.

RE: Outlook 2010: iMAP config - TWO .PST filesposted in IT Discussion
Hm - Very well. (sigh) guess it's no wonder why I'm confused since the previous tech has two accounts and I have two accounts, and trying to merge them..
What a mess... Can't wait to finish the implementation of O365.

RE: Outlook 2010: iMAP config - TWO .PST filesposted in IT Discussion
Adding just my Support email address into Outlook 2010 since my ticket system is broken (sorta). In setting it up manually so that I can set it as IMAP. Looking at the Data files tab:

Any reason why there should be two .PST files for a IMAP configuration?

@Hubtech
One person shop also. But I found that if I don't push people to use the ticketing system I'm flooded with people stopping me in the hall, calling me on the phone,.. and texting me...I find that tracking my actions over the course of a month helps in future justifications for help or replacement of equipment.

Are you looking primarily for hosted or hosting yourself? Any particular features that you need?
I can go either way,.. I'm still in process of moving our current host to BlueHost. But if I want to not deal with some issues, I could go hosted and be just fine. I don't want to have to spend anything for it if I can get away with it.

Seems my host has broken my help desk software (HESK)
While I can 'still use it' it' is at reduced capacity. Any suggestions on a possible replacement?

Thing about waiting... you learn more and find that claims aren't always what they claim to be...
